Camera / TracBall

Postby Karnatik » Tue Aug 20, 2013 7:07 am

I use a TracBall, and I cannot move the camera angle. The same problem prevents me from playing Runescape. I can zoom in and out with the wheel. Other games allow me to use right-button + Ball to move the camera.
I have arthritis, and wasd is a deal-breaker, so I am happy to be able to point-and-click to move. But if I can't change the camera, I won't be able to play.
Please let me know if you are going to address this problem, or if I am missing something. Thanks.

You use the middle button to change the camera.

The TracBall does not have a center wheel, it has a marble and a scroll ring. And the marble does not work as a wheel does. In UWO and a few other games, right-click-hold allows the marble to control the camera.

The scroll wheel doubles as a middle mouse button when you press it. If you're trackball doesn't have this functionality built into it (I've seen trackballs that do, as I helped my mother pick one out for her office), you should be able to emulate it through software. Check in your driver settings or with the manufacturer. The default is holding both left and right mouse buttons at once, though.

Typically, right-click and drag controls the camera in most 3D games without a fixed camera angle. Where you find exceptions is when the RMB is needed to use the interface.
