Over the last 2 days I have lost 5 structures:

- 4 x Drying Frames including the rabbit skins on them
- Ore Smelter which required 2 Iron Bars to complete

The 4 x Drying Frames vanished while offline or out foraging so I cannot really comment.

The Ore Smelter went missing while I was in camp. As mentioned it only required 2 Iron Bars to complete and was placed between a Coal Clamp, Kiln and a Pair of Compost Bins. At the time I was working on my homestead making pots and a second Fire pit.
I had the Kiln burning and checked it, 2 bricks were ready for an urn so, I grabbed the bricks made the urn and put it into the Kiln. I noticed the Kiln needed more fuel so grabbed some branches. As i went to put the branches into the Kiln I noticed the Ore Smelter construction marker was missing, I've been running into the thing for nearly 2 days and it is gone. Theft was not an issue as the construction site was always visible.

It's really hard to say what's going on here without more information. I'm going to gamble and say you don't have a claim of any sort. Even if you have a claim, it must have the upkeep paid.

Decay occurs randomly on the map. When decay hits a building, it takes some of the HPs of the structure. Some things decay faster than others. You can tell the structures are damaged by the color of them. The more damage, the redder they get. The various claims, as long as they are paid up, prevent decay.

Also, without the claims, you won't be able to tell if anyone is sneaking up and breaking things. Evidence of crimes will only be left if there's a claim. (Note: a lean-to flagged as a homestead only counts for the lean-to and containers in it.)

Thanks for the fast reply. I was unaware or the randomness of the decay mechanic. Yes, being a new arrival to Jamestown can be difficult especially when I do not have enough to make a claim on the land as yet. I have several uncompleted works that have been in progress for nearly a week without any loss. I click build on them after adding resources. I started to click build after I got raided for snakeskins... haha. I was definatly not raided the Smelter was there then gone. The decay mechanic would have to be responsible. It is very sad that a structure under construction that is less than 24hours old and had resources added within the hour of my original post be completly removed from the game due to a random decay mechanic.

I propose that the decay mechanic is good to have but not in a random form that can destroy a new structure but instead should be there to remove all the unused structure dotted around the map.

Lastly I feel trading is very badly implemented and more trading venues or options should be available.

Lol, just saw that decay mechanic in action as I typed this message a barrel vanished dumping its contents on the ground... whoops the contents now vanished in under 2minutes wow that was fast. A further thought, Why do i have the ability to repair when I cannot see if something needs repair.
