compost bin bugged

Postby martinuzz » Mon Apr 29, 2013 1:33 pm

I made a compost bin, using 2% pure blue wood. In it, is one 7% pure blue earthworm python.
However, the humus it creates is 0% pure.

Sounds like a bug.

EDIT:"I made another bin, from 4% pure red wood, and it has a 21% pure red python, and two 90+% red worms.
The humus is only 2% pure. Seems bugged too. Shouldn't drop below compost bin purity.

One thing is purity and the other elemental composition.
Make sure that the other 3 elemental values are also similar.

Keep in mind that you don't know the purity of your bin, and we still don't know the proper formulas for calculating humus purity. I always suspected that the bin itself doesn't take on the exact elemental composition of the boards put in, but rather some fraction of that. Might well be that the bin purity is the same as the purity of the humus that it outputs without worms. So could be that your bin actually has an elemental composition of (board element + 25 * 2.5 ) / 3.5. You should post the elemental compositions of the boards put into those bins and of the worms inside, that'd help us figure out the formula ! :D

Unfortunatly I don't have any relic of the exact blue properties anymore. I could still check the red wood purity though.

I made a compost bin, using 4% pure (40.54/20.29/20.68/18.51) boards.
in it is one 21% pure python (59.74/12.90/13.27/14.10)
one 93% pure worm (97.66/1.11/0.90/0.33)
and one 38% pure worm (70.33/6.50/3.70/19.48). Heh. I thought it was 98% pure.

this makes 2% pure humus (35.70/21.44/21.47/21.40)

hope this helps the math wizards

Ok, sicne you gave all the needed date if we assume nails have no purity, I will test your data with my hypothetical formula:

he=(0.5*(10-bp)*be + 0.5*wef*(10-wp)*we+0.5*(1-wef)*9*25)/(0.5*(10-bp)+0.5*wef*(10-wp)+0.5*(1-wef)*9)

with:

with: if wef>1, then wef=1

we=(0.04*(10-wxp)*wxe + 0.16*(10-pxp)*pxe))+....+..../(0.04*(10-wxp)+0.16*(10-pxp)+...+...
wp=(Salt^2 + mercury^2 + sulphur^2 + lead^2) * 12 - 2

be=(0.6*(10-wop)*woe + 0.4*(10-np)*ne))/(0.6*(10-wop)+0.4*(10-np))
bp=(Salt^2 + mercury^2 + sulphur^2 + lead^2) * 12 - 2

given data:
woe=40.54/20.29/20.68/18.51
wop=1.3905
p1e=59.74/12.90/13.27/14.10
p1p=2.9322
w1e=97.66/1.11/0.90/0.33
w1p=9.4605
w2e=70.33/6.50/3.70/19.48
w2p=4.4581
wef=0.24

First we will calculate the compostbin elements
be=34.16/22.22/22.45/21.17
And the compostbin multiplier:
bp=1.1354

Now we calculate the totalwormelement and multiplier:
we=62.04/11.68/11.53/14.75
wp=3.2031

This information we can use in the final calulation to predict the humus:
33.17/22.32/22.43/22.08

Which is actually less pure as your result. Thanks for the data so I could test my formula. Before I start adapting ym formula, are you 100% sure you didnt have any neutral worms in your compost bin? Because that would explain the difference.

PS: If you want more pure humus, then it is very important step to increase your wef (worm efficiency) some. Try adding more worms with similar elements to reach the 100% wef.

no 0% worms. I do suspect that nail purity matters for the bin though, and defaults to 25/25/25/25, since it has no real purity yet

There a thread in Help! to discuss humus: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5689

Let's try to figure out how things work before declaring bugs. There may be a bug here, and if it's determined, I'll be glad to open this back up. Until then, let's try to keep the conversation in one place so we can figure things out. Thread closed for now. Please use the report function or PM me or another mod to have the thread opened up again.
