Stuck downloading

So. I've had this problem for months now... I got the game running a while ago but then suddenly there was an update that forced me to redownload the entire client again. Now when it begins downloading, it gets stuck at random points and doesn't progress at all. Java doesn't freeze or anything, it just stops receiving anything. I was forced to give up on the game in hopes a better way to download it would be released... Sadly that's not the case it seems.

Now, when I restart the download, the bar gets stuck at random places. So say I was running it and it would go to around the 72% mark and just completely stop but would still say "Downloading application.". But another time it would go to say, the 85% mark and stop there. And then I could try it again and it would be neither 72% or 85%, just a random spot. Sometimes it gets stuck verifying application as well.

Now, you might say "It's probably your firewall." or "You have to redownload java" I have reinstalled java 4 times, cleared the cache and turned off my firewall countless times. I spent 10 hours today alone reclicking the download to try and get it to finish. I've tried downloading the game on another computer and transferring the files... Nothing works.

I really want to play the game, but I'm out of ideas of how to make this possibly work. I DID manage to get it to somehow finish the download 2 days ago, but the game was all messed up. There was no grass, only darkness. Everything was shiny and unrendered and looked disgusting... The resources didn't seem to be updating properly for whatever reason.

Naturally I deleated everything again and restarted once more, but now I can't get the game to get past 85ish% (Since there's no actual percents or download rates on the download, I can't check if it's just going super slow or not moving at all.)

But what I do know, is EVEN if I leave it on for HOURS. Not a single part of that green bar moves. The download just pauses for no reason and I can't make it continue. So if anyone has any ideas, please... I've tried everything I can possibly think of.

Known bug in java with JNLPs, with no resolution that I could find anywhere on the official java website. This doesn't happen for everybody, so its not really the developers fault. It does, however, happen to me on one of my computers and has to do with the jnlp's verification process. I got it to work once by deleting all the certificates in my Java Control Panel.

Use Ender's Client.

I had a problem like this on one computer which was using AVG 2011, and was able to solve it (temporarily) when I went into AVG's options and chose "temporarily disable real-time protection". After doing this, the frozen download (and 3 other cancelled ones) gave an error message about being "unable to continue". With AVG disabled, the download proceeded smoothly, and the game loaded properly and was playable.

However, when AVG's protection resumed, then the client would have difficulty loading new map tiles, or the data for new items.

A more permanent solution was achieved by updating to AVG 2013.

This might not be exactly your problem, but the symptoms are the same. Changing Windows' firewall settings also did nothing. Only fiddling with AVG made a difference.

Okay, so. I did have AVG 2011, and it seems to have been the problem. The reason I'm posting so late is because I fixed the issue before by transferring files to this computer from another one. That was only a temporary fix since whenever there's an update, the game stops working. Anyway, yes... I updated AVG to 2013 and everything works fine now. :D Thanks for the help. If anyone else has this problem and has AVG 2011, just update really quick and the issue -should- be solved.
