On more than one occasion I have had a loaded drying rack decay and disappear while I'm not playing overnight. Is the decay rate for drying racks supposed to be so quick? I had only just made it and it couldn't have even been around long enough for the skins to dry out all the way.

I'm assuming it was off of your claimed land (otherwise it should suffer no decay).

I'm pretty sure that the decay events on unclaimed buildings are random. It's possible that you've gotten super-unlucky and been hit by a cluster of them. However, I have not had this happen to me at all, and you have experienced it multiple times, suggesting something other than just dumb luck could be at play (but I have no idea what).

How many drying racks do you have? The more you have, the more likely you are to experience rare events (basic probability, not special game mechanic).

They are. I've never seen a drying rack blow up, but then I've never built one off of a claim, either. I also couldn't tell you how many HP they have, so couldn't say if they break on one decay hit or need more. I know I've left my lean-to for a couple of weeks and it didn't need a single point of repair.

When I periodically repair my off-claim drying racks, the repair progress goes "50%, Done". I'm not sure what significance this has. It may mean that one decay-hit brought my racks to 50%. It may also mean that repairing goes quickly enough I never see the 0% (in fact, I don't think null progress ever shows up at all).
