Item loss from "occupied location"

Postby MisterTuggles » Sat Aug 18, 2012 9:53 pm

So I was recently travelling to a move next to a friend. I had packed up 3 boxes full of rare inspirationals, nails, iron bars, metal tools/weapon/etc, and a Loom. During my trip the server crashed. That is fine. Came back up, logged in, everything was fine. Five minutes later the server crashes again. This time I had unloaded my sled so I could pull some items to train from. When I log back in I get a popup message saying that the spot had become occupied and I was forced to port to my homestead. What this did was drop everything I had, left all of my boxes, and my sled along with all of the contents in the boxes. I probably lost 2-3k worth of item + the sled because of this.

Now, in a game where I have spent money for Silver are we not to be reimbursed for game glitches causing us to lose everything we had at the time? I am not really even angry about the RL cash I put into the game thus far. What pisses me off is the amount of time I will have to put back into the game to acquire the items that were lost because of a server crash. If a player had KO or PK'ed me I wouldn't be angry since it was something that I had, or had not done to prevent the situation. When the server crashes and causes me to lose of the items I had been working to obtain, and spent RL money on that pisses me off.

I would like to be reimbursed for these items.

I would also suggest some sort of "mini-teleport" function to be in place when these "area occupied" problems occur. This isn't the first time it has happened to me, but this is the first time I lost just about everything I had acquired since playing, including the items obtained from spending RL money.

When this happens you should say "no" and try to log in a few more times. Sometimes it will let you.

I tried that about 30 times. I did not want to lose all my things...

No
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

And why not? Items were lost by no error of my own. The game mechanic is such that it essentially stole items I paid RL money to get.

What kind of precedence does it set to not allow reimburse people for losing items because of the game taking a huge crap? What if they implement a real cash shop with cash shop items and these things happen? Do you think someone is going to stick around and keep paying when the game steals items from them and the devs go "Opps too bad, better luck next time"

No, people will leave in droves. I am borderline leaving right now. A paying customer they will lose because the game took a crap and stole my items. Even if I stay, if I don't get the items back do you think I am going to keep giving them more money? Hell no.

No because it's a known bug. It's not even a bug. It's a fix for exploits. The forums are going through a transitionary period, so this might not have been readily apparent. There is a bug tracker to look up these things. Since it IS a beta, losses like this will happen for no known reasons. That's part and parcel in participating in beta testing runs. It's up to YOU to know what the bugs are and how to avoid them.

There has been requests for something OTHER than the current mechanic, but it needs some major work and isn't something that can easily be fixed over night as well as avoid the possible exploits the current mechanic fixes.

What you can do to avoid this in the future: Don't log out standing near an object--a few tiles away will do. Avoid logging out in heavy traffic areas. Someone might drop something where you logged just to force you to drop everything. If you do get this, wait a few minutes. The map section might have loaded and there could be a bear or snake standing there. (Glad you couldn't log in instead of logging in, getting KO'd, dropping everything, AND losing proficiency points?)

Logging out is one thing. This was not me logging out of the game. This was the server taking a ****. The server crashed while I was pulling some things from my sled to train. If this has, in any way, been something I caused by something I did I would not be pissed. As it stands I am pissed because the game crapped out and then booted me away from all of my things which I couldn't recover. Things that I had spent RL money to obtain.

"Having it out" on the forums isn't the best way to handle the situation. If you have real issues, you should take them up with the only Customer Service rep so far, TotalyMoo.

And how would I go about getting in touch with them?

I am not trying to "have it out" either. I am pissed, with due reason. I was stating my problem in hopes that it would be resolved since I am unaware of how to file a petition.
