Salem/Java based apps crashing the system?

Postby Prolaktynka » Tue Dec 18, 2012 7:23 pm

Hiho.. recently I've been getting system crashes (instant reboots after a freeze) while playing or launching Salem. Similar thing happened with new version of minecraft sometime ago only that it was the same freeze followed by bluescreen. (didn't launch it since)

Anyone got any idea on how to fix this? :( I saw some old thread on minecraft forums with similar issue that suggested ramsticks could be damaged but they don't seem to be.. (i ran more resource-heavy things than Minecraft or Salem and they ran fine, I had that crash only on Java-based games.

If it were that simple.. it stays around 55 Celsius at most (in Dota 2 lobby for example it's around 60c) so nop!

Does your Java match your system? Ie, 32 or 64 bit?

Are you serious? Salem is not compatible with Vista? :P
Looking for serious input here :(

That's not what he's suggesting. It could be that your video drivers aren't fully compatible with OpenGL and there may not be up-to-date drivers for Vista. Some of the older Intel chips that came integrated with netbooks and laptops are the culprit for the most part. There are proper drivers for Win 7 that fully support OpenGL, but Vista and older OS's haven't been supported for a couple of years. So you're saying it's a graphic driver problem? I have had issues with opengl stuff but why would it bluescreen the system like that? As I said it didn't happen outside of minecraft and salem..

Both Minecraft and Salem utilize OpenGL. Open GL error 1281 simply means that our graphics drivers don't have proper support for the openGL function that is causing the crash.

I know for a fact that a Radeon 6800 does have support for the most recent versions of OpenGL. YOu just need to upgrade your drivers. Go to www.amd.com and run the autodetect/install under the support homepage.
