Salem Won't Launch

Postby pharri3173 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 6:13 pm

Unable to launch the Salem Client. Java starts and then the Salem window opens, but renders nothing but a white screen. I attempt to close it using task manager, and I get the following Java error - Java(TM) Platform SE binary is not responding. I have reinstalled Java and Salem - any ideas?

I turned on the Java console - and it also hangs on me, but the last line of the 3 lines of the console:

JNLPClassLoader:Finding library jogl.dll
JNLPClassLoader:Finding library jawt.dll
JNLPClassLoader:Finding library jogl_awt.dll

at this point, nothing else renders in the console, and I have to kill it via taskman

You can try Ender's Client for now.

Sounds like a bad java installation to me...

Clear the java cache first, if that doesn't work then uninstall and reinstall java.

Cleared all temporary files, ran ender's - no go - still hung.
Uninstalled Java 7 - reinstalled from fresh file on Java site, ran ender's - no go - still hung.

No clue what is going on :(

Does your Java match your system (ie 32 or 64 bit)?

You may also want to try Java 6.

Double check that these three files are properly downloaded. If you open up the Java configuration and click "View..." under Temporary Internet Files, you open the Java Cache Viewer. In the "Show:" drop box, select resources and you should see these files listed. If you don't see them, then they weren't downloaded properly. I can only think of a couple of things that might cause this, but only one is easily fixed. There may not be enough cache space for Java to download the files. Double check your Temporary Internet Files settings and increase the amount of cache space available if it's not maxed.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Currently, I've tried both 6 and 7, and I'm running 64 bit version as I have Win7-64.

Under the cache viewer, I have the following:
updater.jnlp (assuming that's ender's file)
updater.jar
icon.gif

Those are the only files present under resources.

Currently, I have 32768 MB of disk space set for temporary files.

Yes, I believe updater.jnlp is for Ender's. Have you tried installing the vanilla client? Try that and Ender's might work. (Ender's should be downloading the jogl.* files, too.)
