Forever loading cont.

Postby Redell2 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 10:41 pm

So after 7 months this problem is still not fixed. I was hoping after all the nice things they did to Salem they would have fixed this but nope.
See the following for more info.

(Also a pain in the ass to get my original account transferred to the new site.
Emailed Paradox support 4 days ago, just used one of the 10 beta keys I received to make this one.)

Post on the bug tracker report, and perhaps you could help loftar troubleshoot it if you think it is a problem with the game. You are the only person that had and still has this problem that cares enough about the game to report it.

I get this Forever Loading problem too.. I've always had a feeling that it had something to do with my crappy DSL connection, but it does get pretty extreme in certain areas of the world. It's particularly bad at my first claim, and if I try to log into a character who is at that location, it's basically a crap shoot whether the 3d viewport will load within 15 or 20 minutes. Other areas of the world don't exhibit the problem (yet), but I feel like it got progressively worse at my first claim. At first, the black 'Loading..' screen would just flash for a second every now and then, but by now it can take several minutes to clear. I get the problem on the default client and the Ender client, but can still control my character and do anything that doesn't require clicking in the 3d viewport area while I have the black Loading screen.

I setup an alt at a 2nd claim, and it's been pretty smooth sailing out there so far, but I am starting to get the black Loading screens for several seconds to a minute out there, and I wonder if it's going to eventually get to a point where I can't log in to that area either..

I had this problem for a day. Then I thought that maybe my router was lagging, then I rebooted my router, then the problem never came back.

I have the same problem. The further from Boston I travel the worst it gets. Some friends are setup about three hours away and I have traveled about one.. Perma-Black screen now. I can still move, that is until my character hits a ledge or tree and after that I am stuck. I have tried both versions of java (clean installs, dirty installs, one, both) and clearing out the .salem and salem directories.

I know a bad Java install has caused issues for some people with this. I believe there was also some sort of communication error linked to this problem, but I'm not sure that anyone has resolved it. It could be network card, software, router, ISP, or anything else between the two systems.

Like I've said on the Paradox forums, I tried playing Salem on 3 different computers,
reset my router many times due to massive amounts of setting changes,
even ***** with my phone jack wiring and still had the same problem in the same area.
I doubt it is a software/hardware problem. I have a horrible internet connection 3Mbps down .5Mbps up
so I have a feeling it might be that, but I really REALLY don't want to pay more money for a better connection
just for "Salem".(Now if it was HnH that would be a different story.)
If someone could pass me a debug client that would be nice.

PS: My main acct has still not been transferred to the new server.

Well since having only 3 Mbps is ****** I decided to go ahead and upgrade to 30 Mbps and sure enough that fixed my problem.
I'm not saying its my connection alone, it could have been the router, but I did try to tweak it to the best of my knowledge.

Just saying this one thing: It was not a hardware issue, not a software issue, (in my case anyways) the issue is somewhere from the router to the connection to the server.

Did you ever contact the ISP to see what the problem was? A change in speed like this can change a lot of dynamics in a network connection. (A lot of ISPs are shady, too, and will do funny things to lower end connections.)
