Java and Microsoft security essentials

Postby Soul4Sale » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:23 pm

ok so i have been trying to get salem to launch properly since last night. i have spent a lot of time reading these forums and the older paradox ones trying to solve my problem with java! like everyone else experiencing issues i cleared the cache and reinstalled then blew java away entirely and started with a fresh install. still no joy, until i remembered i was running microsoft security essentials! the only program that could possibly be interfering with java running salem. i decided to turn it off just to take that possability out of the equation. sure enough salem now runs. wanted to post this for any and all having java issues if any of you run security essentials turn it off and that may solve your problem!

Thanks for the heads up and the tip! Hopefully it will get some uses.

As a note, did you get anything specific, such as the security is intentionally blocking the domain? If so, it could be something similar to a problem some people have been having with another security program recently in that someone thought the site is malicious or distributing malware.

I have Microsoft security essentials running as well, although I did turn off the 'real-time' protection feature because it was using too much of my CPU all the time. Salem works just fine for me.

yes that is specifically what i did to get salem to run was turn off the real time protection!

the error message i received was the standard this program has stopped running and it asks if you would like to search the internet for a solution. then as usual when you say yes the windows all close and nothing happens...
