I already logged out and back in after returning home before
going back to Providence to the player stalls. Can't see anything
for sale tonight and have bought things there in the past.
The stalls do not close.
When you say "Can't see anything for sale tonight and have bought things there in the past," do you mean that you see nothing in the stall window, or that you can't see the stall window at all?
If the problem is the former, then you may be having a network connection problem, but I suspect that you are experiencing the latter, which suggests that your windows configuration file is placing the stall window outside of your visible game window.
If you are using Ender's or Latikai clients then you can edit or delete the windows.conf file as suggested
here by Kandarim (here he refers to crafting menu, but you can edit "Buy_Pos" to change the position of stall windows):

If you can't find it, deleting ~/Salem/windows.conf will result in a reset of all UI settings (i.e. window positions). This will be your last option, but it's a guaranteed fix.
I assume the default client allows you to do the same, but I can't verify that right now.
