What version of Java are you using?

Did this problem just start? (Have you been able to play before this?)

Are you using the STD client or a custom client?

What Operating System are you using?

32 bit or 64 bit?

What antivirus? (Have you added Salem to the exception list on your firewall?)

When black screen appears... can you control-alt-delete and get to task manager... or is the PC completely unresponsive?

I use the same and have similiar specs

When you load the game does it ask you to accept that it's a Java Security Risk?

I recommend you check the custom client thread to see if there are known issues;

wipe your temp files/cookies/etc. (this IS a web game);

check msconfig (type this into run and select) and use selective startup by disabling any unknown apps that are not MS that might be running in the background. Lose/disable your social media, itunes, etc start up apps...they won't start eating system resources until you actually try to use them. ((Your PC will load/boot everything normally, but you can instruct it to only execute apps when needed this way...and reserve resources, speed boot times, etc))

Only one time have I ever seen screen resolution as an issue. Is your LCD display new? Bigger? Older? Try to use a common resolution vs something exotic.

Someone in our town had the same problem when using a new computer. Seems he fixed it by typing the following. (Just login and the console will appear once you type ":" if you type it in chat it wont work.
Code: Select all
:gl meshmode d

not the registry frakked. The console, where you enter any client command. Please shut up if you don't know what someone else is talking about.

@OP: can you try typing :whyload in the client console ? depending on the output (in the system chat tab) that might indicate there is an issue with the resource loading).
