gained 1 lvl madness without any reason

Hello,

Some minutes ago I won a madness level while opening one of my woven baskets.

I didn't do any of the action that where listed in the patch and that might have raised my insanity, so I'm kind of worried.

I dced on my leafy bed this morning and I only connected this evenning, so according to the patch my character slept more than 8hours on a bed. I played fews hours(3/4, with a dc of around 1hour on a clay pit) before that happened, so I dont understand what happened.

Can someone look for this?

I'm at the stage where I'm still farming indian charms to build my first ore smelter, and I'm afraid I'll have to stop playing in order to kept my character alive...(until what I suppose to be a bug is fixed)

Can someone explain me what could possibly have happened?

Is there a way to see my insanity?
lastly, and sorry if this is off topic, but can someone tell me how am I supposed to get tobacco / teddybear when I dont have enough money to pay my stake's fee ?:( It feels like if I farm I'll go insane and lose my character, if I dont I cant pay my stake's fee and I will lose my home... what do to?

Sorry for my english,

From what you have said you are not doing anything to control your insanity other than sleeping in a bad. If you DC then you gained insanity. You can not see your insanity so you will have to do your best to manage it.

If you can't buy tobacco then you will need to grow it.

Well, that's blunt, if true.

What you want to do is start doing things to control it, and avoid making it worse, and just suck up the consequences until you can afford teddy bear mats. It's really not a lot to afford upkeep on a p-claim, and if you really spend that much (I doubt it) but if it was enough to make it too much to afford a bear, what's worth more, the character or the mats? (directly buying the bear is dangerous because it could be cursed and make your madness worse. Unless you implicitly trust the trader or person.)

Almost all of the mats except the bear hide really aren't that bad either, so you could possibly avoid spending silver EXCEPT on that part, but honestly, I think just playing "the right way" and putting up with the not so large costs per week of upkeep, you can easily afford it.

Or you should be able to unless you are truly bad at making money,

If you played for a few hours without doing anything to control your insanity and then logged off, you might have gained a level a bit before you logged off and then weren't notified of it right away.

Hello everyone,

thank you for your reactivity :)

I looked for tobacco planting before posting here, but it's an end game skill, I mean if I focus on agriculture I should get cotton planting before this weekend, but raising tobacco is way too far ahah.

Krusk, thank you for you advice about not buying a teddybear :). I'll try to focus on buying a bear skin... and focus my skills on cotton planting and Lace & Fancywork...

TotalyMeow, I got somes flowers before dcing, so this shouldnt be that...

I'll try to get flowers or study grass whistle every 30 minutes without doing anything listed, and more when I do something listed...

I loved the idea to add the insanity, but this is way too early :(, I dont feel like I'm getting punished for a risky move, it just fell on me... I'm too far from having any of the items I need the natural way, and if this go on like that, bear skin price will raise, and become impossible to buy...

Well this is off topic I suppose...

Since I can't monitor it I'll try programming an alarm every 30 mins while I play...

Thank you,

I would recommend more like 10-15 mins using an inspiration to be safe. It is the best habit to form, just assume you have to do it forever, it never stops. Some things tend to push up insanity faster than others and 30 might be pushing it. Like getting multiple traces of the lost colony while leveling ground - that was my last madness 1. Better safe than sorry.

For now try to get a pipe, save silver for tobacco and teddy bear, and look into an affluence set.

Most people write this mechanic off as an easy thing to manage, but I would have to agree that it causes much more issue for new players that are not aware or have access to the things to fix it (hooka, teddy bear, tobacco) which are more mid-end game. Concept is interesting but its current implementation (in my opinion) adds no value to the game at all.

Good luck
