Today, as i found two deers not far from a bear, and thought "Yeah, let's do this, i will kill some deers against the bear, because im scrubby noob with low stats". To my surprise, deer actually used charge EVERY single move, in 3 seconds deer dealt total damage of 60. I will take a guess that this isn't actually a feature.

I am afraid to fight deers now, you know. Deers that deal that high damage in mere seconds AND break your bones are not the kind you would mess with ~60 biles. Such scary.

You need to find a way to keep up with them, as long as you're hugging them they'll remain relatively calm - their ordinary attacks being miles away from their charge in terms of damage. Some have found the otherwise lowely club very useful for this purpose as it keeps them stunned for long enough, you could try that.
It shouldn't happen with pilgrims if they try to stay close enough to the deer. I think part of the problem is the big hitbox of a bear. After hitting a bear the deer is still some distance away from the bear, or rather their coordinates are, even though they are "touching". Pilgrims have smaller hitboxes, so after a charge the deer is closer to the pilgrim, than it would be to a bear. Probably that's why deers charge on bears more.
Yeah does not seem like a bug to me. My first couple fights with a deer I had one get away from me and first charge hurt for a lot, second was even more miserable, third one hit for an astounding amount greater than 40 if I remember. I would say this is probably due to reel or something. Being stunned an charged from behind after being hit a couple times before can be vary painful.
As they said below just stick right on the deer's tail. When it goes to do a regular attack just move and stomp the pierce. Rinse and repeat till you win kill them. At 60 biles it is not that hard but it can be an extended fight.
