I've tried planting a tree cutting I got, but it stubbornly refuses to be planted.

I tried planting it 1 tile away from everything else, I tried planting in the middle of a 2X2 dug out part of my pavement, but nothing seems to work. My character just twitches once when I press plant, and then doesn't move.

I could plant pine trees just fine, but this tree just doesn't want to be planted.

Is that a wall to the right of the spot? It might be you are too close to a wall to plant it. There's that nowadays

Yeah that seemed to be the problem, even though I tried planting it 1 tile away from wall. I just had to plant it a little bit further away.

And by little bit I mean more than 1.5 tiles away from wall

that's only barely a tile away from the wall. The wall's hitbox is larger than its graphics, and currently there is only a single empty tile between the tree's hitbox and the wall's hitbox.

This is correct, and also remember that the tree uses it's full-grown hitbox when deciding where it can be planted. The edge of that tree will eventually be several pixels closer to the wall.

I forget what the yellow tree is called, but that one has the smallest hitbox, and can be planted closest to other objects if you just want a tree for vanity.

Yeah, i believe so.

Yeah the bounding box for the wall segments are not as they seem. This is as close as I could go to them.
I wish ender's client had some toggle mode to display the bounding box of objects. That would really help when building/planting stuff.
