Extra information I'd like to add, since I've been trying to assist my friend in downloading Salem.

  • He has tried lowering the Java Security to Medium, but it does not work.
  • He has the latest version of Java.
  • He has cleared his Java cache.

I remember having a problem like this, and lowering the security worked. Any idea what could be causing this?
The download crashes at about 60% - 75% and the error that appears is "Unable to open application", along with the exceptions that he has posted.

I'd say something is canceling your download halfway through ( you probably figured out this much ). Have you had prior issues with something like this?

If you are using a custom client, you can download said file manually and place it in C:\Users\<name>\Salem\bin\ manually. That should work.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

My friend isn't using a custom client and this is the first time he downloads Salem, directly from the website. I don't really understand what the problem could be :/

This is an unfortunate bug in Oracle's JNLP client* that makes it think it has gotten the whole client even if the download was reset for some reason. Just clear your Java cache and redownload it.

* Quite arguably, it's actually a bug in the core Java class library

There could be some network interruptions causing the bad download. If it's persistent, you might want to check with your service provider or check your network for error causes: bad cable(s), bad wireless signals, bad router/modem (or at least acting up).
