Has anyone else had this message while trying to log in? Any solutions? Thanks.

Often enough that you get about 10 pages (and counting) on Google: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... +timed+out

Possible issues: network issues. use a tool like ping or tracert to verify the game is connecting to the server. (Forget what the server URL is off the top of my head. I believe it is game.salemthegame.com now.) Time outs and dropped packets are signs that you have a poor connection to the game server and you should check hardware and possibly with your service provider if it's persistent.

Ports are being blocked. Make sure that any security software in use, including any firewalls on your router (if you connect through one), have ports TCP 1871 and UDP 1870 open for use by Java/Salem.

You have a piece of security software that doesn't work well with Java or is blocking Salem for various reasons. Disable security software and see if this helps.

I'm probably forgetting something as I'm writing this.

edit: yeah, forgot a couple of things: 1. Make sure Java is up to date (of course, one should always do this when having issues, but many always overlook it. Double check and update!!) 2. Flush java's cache--failure in certain files can cause this and flushing the cache will fix it. 3. Always check the stickies at top of the forum for directions first.
