went through the registry and deleted everything java related. Still stuck at the black loading screen.

Same here.

Same computer & internet as I played Salem before last patch, tried different Java versions without success.

I'm gonna do a fresh Windows install tomorrow to check out if it solves anything

After hours and hours of searching, re-installing and whatnot, I finally found a way to get past the black loading screen and get my way into Boston.

Here's how I did it:

1. Right click the Salem shortcut on your Desktop & go to properties
2. Enable Compatibility Mode on Windows XP service pack 3

3. Start Salem (& hope its fixed)

i have windows 7. there is not a compatibility button in those options. i give up. I'll just play at release.

i have windows 7 and there IS such a thing. right click on the shortcut of salem.

I think this depends of the version of Windows 7, Home Edition doesn't have windows XP emulation possibility.

When I right click on Windows 7 the second thing in the menu is "troubleshoot compatability"

I forgot to say you need to click properties first, u might have missed that :D

I'm pretty sure that compatibility modes are available in all versions of Windows. It's been a part of the software since Win98 if I recall right.
