There's lots of examples of screenshots of timber piles floating around the forums. Some are discussed in the message, others are just posted. Searching help for timber piles might provide something useful. Digging through the screenshots thread may help, too (though many of these posts may not be tagged for everything you can see).

As far as decay, decay destroys the pile outright if off of a claim. Otherwise, rot (moldy boards) is always a risk with space between piles being the mitigation.

Hate to be a realist here, but wouldn't that destroy the crops underneath? :geek:

Not sure what you mean by "outright" here, but the piles are not destroyed instantly. They can take quite a few decay ticks. That's how we know the piles in the OP have been destroyed by a player and not decayed

I was trying to distinguish between the piles themselves decaying away over time and eventually breaking vs the boards themselves rotting and coming out as "moldy boards". I'm not aware of timber piles having more moldy boards because they decayed some, so wanted to try and make that distinction. Sorry for any confusion from my post. Procne is correct on that. It's probably best said this way: "The decay process does damage to an object just as if a player is using the 'destroy' command". That should make it perfectly clear. Yes, I am aware that timber piles off claim can generally survive until harvested unless destroyed by another player. (This assumes the piles is harvested when it is ready and hasn't set for days or weeks longer.)

The specifics on how much damage an object takes from decay per cycle is not known. Objects that are easily broken by hand can take a lot of decay hits before destroyed, while other objects can break in just a few days.
