Salem Vanilla Client Issue - Java 7 and 6

Postby Masai » Sat Aug 03, 2013 3:37 pm

Dear Salem Community,

Please could i request some assistance regarding the Java and Enders Client.

I have done a google search and search on these forums for a link for Java 6 32bit.
Unfortunately i have not managed to find such link.

I believe my Java 7 is causing chaos with Enders Client and my Salem Vanilla Client.
I manage to play for about 5 minutes, and end up back on my log in screen after a lengthy frozen salem client.

From what i gather, Java 6 fixes this problem, could someone assist me with a link? The Oracle Java website merely mentions it is not open to the public anymore, and any other links ive found have been Java 6.1.xxx etc etc.

Thank you,
Kind regards
Masai

Here's the link to manually download Java 6 versions: http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_6.xml

When I tried, the page was down and giving me a gateway timeout.

You can always use the Oracle archive of all Java updates: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 39210.html The right download for you should be this one: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... 45-oth-JPR

Best I can suggest is to check your Java installation and any security systems you might have installed. This includes your network connection and all devices on it between your computer and your service provider. My best guess is you have a security package that is interfering with Java running/connecting to a third site properly, but isn't causing the process to shut down.

Make sure your firewalls and routers allow the ports TCP 1871, UDP 1870.

Disable security software to see if this fixes it. Some cases have seen this work for the download and then they can stay on once the game has been installed.

Could be an error in the Java install that will require uninstalling, cleaning up any Java remains (use a utility like CCleaner or another program that will clean up old .dlls and registry entries), and then reinstalling.

Seems like I'm forgetting a couple of suggestions, but those are the three I can think of off the top of my head.

MagicMan, would AVG cause this problem and is it possible to show/tell me how to allow security packages to not interfere with Salem?

Possibly. I don't recall hearing any issues with AVG. However, a quick search for "AVG Java issues" gets a few hits with some issues for Java 7. Nothing looks recent, but that doesn't mean the problems have been resolved. It does look like simply disabling the program temporarily should resolve issues.

and and is it possible to show/tell me how to allow security packages to not interfere with Salem?

Best I can suggest is reading through the information and procedures others have posted. All I can do is repeat them. If you have questions about a particular procedure, feel free to follow up or PM me.
