build site error?

So I started a mineshaft threw in some materials, built it up a few %, came back, threw in some materials again, built it a few more %, then went back to my claim (the site is off my claim, but its maybe 1 map tile away, if that) loaded some clay into the kiln, returned to the build site, and the whole dang build site was gone.. so, heres where im going with this...

A: Decay? in 20 minutes? that sounds excessive seeing as I had it up to.. well it dosent matter, 1% decaying in 20 minutes while im gathering more materials sounds excessive, but I had it up past 5% so either way, bleh

B: Griefed? I'll give that a maybe, were not going to talk about my location here, but lets just say im 95% sure nobody wandered by me and hacked down my site in the 20 minutes I was away, especialy since I think i would have seen their blip on the mini map. (although if thats what happened, my hat is off to you sir, perfect timing and you deserve whatever materials you got from the site, although you would have been smarter to wait until i was finished and then pirated the ore...)

C: Which leads us here.. Bugged? Is there a known issue with this, or are multiple people seeing this happen? If not then im going to have to go with option B here, even though I think there is a better chance of me getting hit by lightning directly in a winning lottery ticket in a house I won from Ed McMahon

Long time ago I was building my first ore smelter.
Ported to Boston and started gathering some hay for it, returned to home and it was gone.
Area was fenced and no traces of anyone stealing the stuff, but I hadn't claimed that part of the base yet.
