Frequent disconnections/thrown into login screen

Postby Tarevon » Mon Aug 06, 2012 9:58 pm

Hello.

I'm being thrown into the log-in screen randomly, which I guess happens when you get disconnected. But the thing is, when this happens nothing else disconnects. Steam shows no reconnection messages nor does MSN or any of my downloads in Firefox for that matter. I've never experienced this in other games either. But I've also tried playing with my mobile phone's 3G connection, and I've yet to see any disconnects using that. So this leaves me a bit confused. The only thing I could think of was that I keep getting extremely short disconnections that normally don't disconnect other games/programs, but with Salem they do. I did notice that Salem does disconnect the exact moment I take out my internet connection, while other games tend to wait a bit before throwing the disconnected message.

Has anyone else here experienced something like this? This wouldn't really be that big of a problem if I could just reconnect instantly, but with the "you are already logged in" thing it's a bit of a pain. Especially when it happens during combat.

Hmm, I use Ender's client and on my netbook it appears to crash sometimes but just goes to the logout screen instead. This is most likely due to the client using nearly all of this poor computer's RAM. I don't know if it is related or not.

Mmm, if you're using Java 7 it's renown for causing crashes with salem. Switching to 6 apparently reduces the crashes a lot. Potjeh's answer is how to handle it though.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

The same thing happens to me at home. But when I'm in the office, I do not experience the disconnection problem. Even if I leave my client with my char logged-in and inside the game, it never disconnects. But when I'm at home, I can't even walk my char a few feet when I get booted out to the log-in screen.

I am using my laptop so the hardware and software configuration are the same in either location. At home, I am using a mobile 3G USB modem while at work, we have a leased line. My laptop's Java is version 7 update 9. I have tried both the vanilla client and Ender's, with the same results.

I hope anyone can help me because I really want to play at home since I hate looking over my shoulder at work. :D

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I play WOW (private server) and I never get disconnected as much, only when the server is acting up or there are too many players in one map.

Check that network connection your using at home, then. Odds are it is the culprit. If need be, call your ISP to have it checked out.
