Unable to launch application: Connection timed out

Postby Pico » Sun Dec 30, 2012 10:48 pm

Hello,

I'm sure this is a common issue, but every time I attempt to play this game, an error kicks me out of the game at some point (of which I am not sure the reason). What's worse, and specifically what this thread is about,
I can't get back onto the servers despite them being "up" on the status webpage. I cannot even get into the login screen. Is there a standard response to this?

In reference to the FAQ:
"Unable to launch application (delete java cache to solve)
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=66"

Simply clearing my cache has not solved this issue.

Thanks.

Well, I feel silly now. The issue has been solved - hopefully permanently.

I assumed that because the game could run for an hour or two at a time that my version of java was completely up to date. I was wrong.
I'm not sure if it cleared out something that was in the way, or if enough time went by that it just fixed itself, but regardless after I installed a newer version and
downloaded the applet again, it works.

Here is a link for you to test your java if you are having the same issue:

Well, the applet at least runs now, but now it's saying that the connection timed out upon login.

Maybe something got changed with your antivirus or router security systems. Try temporary disabling all of your security features to see if it runs. If it does run, then turn them back on one at a time until it doesn't connect anymore and then you will know which system you need to reconfigure to let salem connect to the internet. If that doesn't affect anything, call your ISP.

Well, this issue has been resolved. First off, I used the Ender client which appears to work better than what your developers have created.

Second, someone walked into my claimed area and just killed me for the fun of it and now every single thing I have in this game has been wiped.

I guess some people like that concept for some reason (sadism), but I rather spend my time somewhere where my time isn't -entirely- wasted.
I would recommend looking into transferring the skills and all lands and ownerships to a specific alternate character.. including the ability to homestead
your previous area.. Or you could just continually kill your player base such that the game can never get large once it's out of beta.

Bye.
