Coal as a fertilizer

Postby Zapt13 » Sat Nov 14, 2015 11:44 pm

I know I'll get scorned for using coal as a fertilizer, but in doing so I noticed the following:
A
fter getting plenty down to 50%, you can't successfully add any more coal, but you can TRY to add coal. Each attempt to add coal seems to count as far as the reduction (or diminishing return), because I did the following after planting:

6 coal to reach 50% plenty, 9 attempts to add coal which failed, and then 1 dross. The dross added 13% speed, as if it was the 16th fertilizer, rather than 28% as if it was the 7th.

I presume the same is true for other fertilizers which can be unsuccessfully added.

are you sure about that ? if dross was the 16th fertilizer, it'd add FAR less than 13% speed.
I think it's more likely that you added a woodchipping also.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I'm pretty sure.

At first I just thought I noticed the symptom, but then I did a careful test. The field started with 172 plenty, after each coal it was:
122, 97, 80, 67, 57, and 50. I tried to add coal 9 more times and then finally a dross. The wiki page for coal shows different information than the agriculture page, so I used the wrong reference there for sure.

According to Wiki Dross gives speed as: 200, 100, 66, 50, 40, 33, 28, 25, 22, 20

Just retested dross, use 7 is 28%, use 8 is 25%, which matches with the Wiki. More sure than ever!

Maybe I should've titled this: "Incorrect fertilizer application when unable to reduce plenty to below 50%"? Seems the field believes more fertilizer has been added than was actually added when the addition of fertilizer is interrupted.

Any Dev read this? Interested in resolving it? Presumably it would just be something like a correction to the sequencing of fertilizing.

That is actually correct, and I have read thise somewhere else also.

This applies for ALL fertilizers, including wood choppings => easy to test.

After reaching your minimum upkeep, click the wood chopping another few times on the field, no choppings are consumed, field stats do not change, but each attempt is counted as a fertilizer use.

Like:
- 2 identical fields with upkeep 5% above minimum (like after a normal harvest)
- apply 1 wood chopping to each field
- click with wood choppings another 10 or 20 or whatever times on field A, but not on field B
- apply 1 dross to each field
- field B will count the dross as 2nd fertilizer, giving 100% speed bonus
- field A will count as 10th, 20th or whatever fertilizer and give near no speed bonus at all
