Strange game freezes

Postby meeshgun » Sun Jul 19, 2015 1:55 pm

Hey everyone, i have a strange problem - salem freezes everytime during tutorial. So, i gather some stones, sometimes I manage to learn some skills, but sooner or later i got the same picture: i can browse skill window, change options, like camera view, or sound volume. But i can't move my character and i can't open craft windows. It looks like im actually offline. I tried 7 and 8 java, PC and a macbook - and everytime i got the same problem. No errors, no exceptions, you just can't do anything. And when i try to relogin, i have to play tutorial from the beginning. I triyed already about 10 times... (
So, does anybody know, how to fix it?

As I read this, I see you're trying on two different computers and getting the same results. This indicates that the network is the issue. What kind of setup are you using? What's your location? (Feel free to PM if you don't want to divulge some of this publicly, and may not be necessary if the following works.) Many routers or modems come with built in firewalls that may be blocking data or otherwise interfering with traffic. It could be your service provider doing the same, especially if you're trying to connect via a public, private business, or school network system. If you're using the same software firewall on your computer, it could cause the same problem, even if two different computers such as a PC and Mac. In any place there is a firewall, you should make sure ports TCP 1871 and UDP 1870 are open for Salem to communicate through. (For opening specific ports, you should refer to the relevant documentation.)

I do have other thoughts on what possible problems there might be, but this is the first that comes to mind as the others aren't likely to create the same issue on both computers.

The network is indeed the issue, which can not only be seen from the fact that the you can do client-local operations but nothing that requires interacting with the server; but also from the logs, where I see that your connection is timing out after a while.

The fact that it works from the outset but stops working after a while probably indicates some kind of intermittent failure or event. Someone else recently had the problem that his NIC switched IP addresses regularly, which caused the connection to drop for that reason (since the NIC would no longer match in his router's NAT tables, of course). Perhaps this is your problem as well? Monitor your NIC's internal IP address while playing and see if it changes. Otherwise, ping the server when the game stops working and see if you get a response.

I tried official game client ( http://game.salemthegame.com/java/salem.jnlp ) and Ender's Salem Client. And i'm playing from Russia, if it helps.
Both computers, that i tried were behind the same router.

Actually, I didn't thought about network problem only because an ArcheAge client was launched in parallel (US servers, by the way, so i usually don't have connection problems). But, this still may be a issue.

Thank you for advices, i'll try to monitor my network status.
