I've not seen this, but I've seen something similar. When the plenty of your field creates a cabbage with no leaves you can't add it to a bin. You can "split" it resulting in zero leaves and a core. This core can be added to a bin. I'm not certain about cabbages in particular, but many other things that would over-fill a bit can be added to fill the bin with the remainder being lost. This is inefficient and tends to happen to me when using pumpkings to fill bins. Normally I run around and drop a few pumpkins in, then come back with cabbages that have been "split" to top everything up.
