To my understanding all phpbb boards just block you from every forum function while you are banned, including private messages.

That's wrong, there's enough easy fixes for this, let alone, addons & plugins which handle this !

Easiest would be to make a new forumgroup & name it 'banned', remove forum posting permissions & tadaaa, fixed !

I know it's not easy for some to come up with an easy solution

I'd say that there are plenty of easy solutions, the hardest part must be to take the decision to apply them. Who's in charge of the mods ? Is there at least another admin than the devs to take the responsabilities ?

See, you can't affirm that what I said is correct and call it wrong it the same sentence, that's just silly.

Add-ons wouldn't quite do it but yes, there are manual work arounds such as adding groups etc.. If you want extra forum features and groups then you have to talk to loftar.

We tried admins. Frankly, ***** them.

If your conclusion is that player moderators are non-perfect and do not handle their responsibilities well (which I, in general, disagree with) than why do you assume that a player admin would fare any better ? If you really feel very badly wronged, you can always take it up with loftar or jorb.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I think the reason for the suggestion was to handle decisions such as deciding whether to add groups, when currently loftar just handles those things. The reason I have no small discontent with admins is because of how they tangle everything up and make a mess without actually doing anything.

Technically, you can't have a forum without an admin. jorb and loftar are the admins. As much as I like Moo, the issues were more trying to conform to the way Paradox would have liked the forums to run compared to how the devs wanted them to run.

As far as who is over the mods, jorb is. I don't want to speak for him, but it would be better for you to come and try to discuss it here first, even if it is a ban and you have to post here with an alt account. (Yes, the current ban rules suck. I quite agree, but until the devs decide to change the way it works, there's nothing else we can do. You can't even discuss the ban with a person other than outside the forum.)

ftfy

Lets speak of individual actions here, and not what is perceived as all of a particular group. This is supposed to be a serious discussion, so lets keep it thoughtful. (Maybe I should ban you now so you can't reply to my post because I called you "unthoughtful"?)

But on the more serious side, I realize this isn't the Haven forums, but its the same devs and they want the same open rules. We're eventually going to end up with the same style of players and posters (we actually already have that, but everyone is trying to remember that Paradox isn't here overseeing thing anymore), and if you can't put up with a few jabs from those that are moderators, how much worse will they be from those that aren't mods?
