Darwoth wrote:the forums and back and forth trashtalk is half the game for any game that is pvp heavy and actually worth a ****, i can easily see how moderation issues on the forums would prevent people from playing the game as a large part of this game ARE the forums.

furthermore i take "half assed moderation" to actually mean "****** mods", of which we have a few that....

1> do not play the game, hardly played when they did, and never graduated beyond week old newbie status when they did play.

2> because of #1 and their total lack of game knowledge constantly blather on about their grand ideas for game "improvements" that would do nothing but ***** the game up even more and drive off more players.

3> endlessly **** talk this game in favor of haven or others entirely.

4> are extremely bias about certain in game politics and use their moderator status to squelch those they dont like.

so, a new player comes to the forums. most forums the moderators are respected long time old salts of the game they moderate for (as opposed to this one where the majority of the players i know consider the most vocal of the moderators to be complete *****). he instantly sees nothing but negativity and ***** from some of the mods. he decides if the games representatives are speaking ill of it he wont waste his time.

The mods aren't half as bad as most of the players for ***** on the game and most have stopped promoting Haven on these forums.

Almost all of the mods played at one point to varying amounts and some still do.

That being said, specific cases of personal attacks on both sides have led us to this situation.

As Darwoth said and I've said multiple times, the forums are half the game for some of us. Playing the game by itself at that point is half a game. So you'll excuse me if I don't take the argument of someone who used the forums to garner his own support in game during the seige of mushiville and obviously played the forum game themselves as valid.

And you will excuse me for thinking you are a retard.

My main point is that if you are reading the forums, and taking polls and commenting, obviously it isn't as bad as you guys are trying to say it is. If you'll quit the game because of the moderators, why the ***** don't you quit the forums because of the moderators? It looks like a lot of people are misinterpreting the question as asking what you don't like about Salem, which was not the question. The question was "What keeps you away from playing Salem?" Therefore, you should not be voting at all if you are still playing, and if you voted that it was the moderators fault that you quit, you definitely shouldn't still be frequenting the forums.

In summation, don't be retarded.

The discussion shifted. The poll may have been originally for that but it's evolved. Don't presume to impose your own restrictions when the discussion shifts on its own. Also, the question was posed by someone who still plays, so if you want to insist that the responses are out of line from his prerequisites you will have to get the OP to speak on that.

Once again, don't be retarded. I was not commenting on the way the discussion shifted, but rather on the poll results, which indicate a large number of votes were cast stating that the "half-assed moderation" keeps them from playing Salem.

The verbiage was quite clear. Just because people misinterpret a question does not mean that the question then changes its meaning to conform to that interpretation.

It would be like if I asked "How many books are on your shelf?" and you responded "My shelves are blue" then the discussion shifted to the best color of shelving. The question remains the same, regardless of the relevance of the answer or the discussion that follows.

Now, if you are arguing that the OP poorly stated his question, and did not mean to ask what he asked, then that is a different argument entirely. You would have to ask him, not me. I'm simply going off of the information at hand, which, to me, is pretty cut and dry.

You say that I'm being presumptive, yet you clearly presume that the poll shifted, based off of the ensuing discussion. The poll was there before the discussion. The poll does not "evolve" as the discussion progresses, unless the OP modifies the poll and/or question to reflect that evolution.

Or everyone that would play more under other circumstances would be allowed to vote too. "keeping you away" might reference a 50% commitment too, rather than a full quit.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

If bad moderation keeps you from playing, then maybe you should be PMing the devs about lack of GMs in the game. We have nothing to do with how the game works, just how the forums are ran.
I am a moderator. I moderate stuff. When I do, I write in this color.

Most times when I am looking to play a new game I check out the forums. I want to see what the community acts like and how they are handled by the mods. Doing that can tell you a lot about the game community. A big factor on these forums is the lack of moderation. Or only moderating people who are not friends of the mods. I See a lot of that going on. When someone comes in here and asks for help or has questions they get met with sarcasm and garbage. Do the mods actually do anything? Nope. THAT is why yes the forums can keep me from playing the game.

The forums are an extension of the game. Honestly I think Darworths post hit the nail on the head. Trash talking I agree is a big part of a pvp game. However I do not think it has to go to the extremes it does on this forum. It is way out of hand, and until someone fixes it, it will continue to drive away people.

I assure you that I do not.

Then my question to you Jorb is why on earth are letting this great game die a slow death? Why are you not trying to get the word out as well as clean up the forums from the garbage that goes on? And why are the updates so slow? You have spoken about horses and witch craft for a year or more. You have a fantastic game here but are really dropping the ball :(
