Part of becoming a referee is learning how to ignore the japes. You need to grow a thick skin and learn to admit when your wrong and improve for the better. Then again, we'd all be better (humanity as a whole here) if we could all put those to practice. ;)

The question is was that standard held in this example. But I can see the writing on the wall and general skirting of the issue by those I was hoping could act as impartial reviewers. I guess the warning for any who gets on the wrong side of any of these three is this entire event. It's not an issue of respect as both sides are in the wrong at times. It's an issue of the fact that if you cross one and then screw up by some loose definition you can be banned for 3 weeks without warning. One party can silence the other without mediation or addressing the points raised. But it won't matter until Claeyt gets on the other end of it again or one of the other dozen who have asked why the state of moderation is the way it is and received apathy as a substitute for reason. By then the apathy will be forum wide though and this turns into something where all the **** talking and ball busting turns into something truly ugly.

I love game forums. I spend way to much time on them. This is by far the most unrestrained, most vicious forum I've ever been on. The GH/Tribe argument alone is like some sort of binary super-nova that sucks in every argument around it. Here we are almost 9 months later and it's still an open wound of hatred and still dominating the argument here.

I never report outside of Help or Bug reports, and then only because of trolling. Sadly, more than i'd like to, because every one of those reports is one too many.

In the matter at hand i'll admit that I probably don't know much about precursor warnings or the like, but I can assume both Binks and the chief had gotten plenty of them having had several myself. However debatably unjust the bans might not have been, the additional ban time because of seems like a willy nilly feud to me.

To quote JAlpha:
Jalpha wrote:If you don't give any respect I don't know how can you expect to receive it...

Yet to newcomers to this forums, mods swinging around the banhammer like we have seen in the past few days hardly instills respect and does not seem professional at all. Of course, the mods are players too and I respect that. They must have the option to troll as much as other players do (and possibly more!) but when it comes down to rule enforcing I expect them to be impartial, fair and rational.

I loved the forums as soon as we left paradox' site. The openness and relaxed lures make it one of the more entertaining forums and is the reason i'll probably keep visiting this forum after I quit the game itself one day. However I don't feel that the two mods involved here are able to keep their skin hardened or to stay impartial while law-enforcing.

It's funny you bring that up because it hasn't been a point of reference in any of my arguments whatsoever. I'm talking about the fact that I look forward to arguing with certain people that could be labeled forum enemies. Life would be boring here if I didn't have all the anti tribe folks to argue with and cajole and threaten. But doing that in an environment where one of them could easily complain and get interpreted as breaking the rules in the slightest and have a mod that I've fallen out of favor with due to my viewpoints and allegiances seize the opportunity to slap on a ban without warning for something more than the three days almost everything else recieved? I'm not a fan, and in the current state of things that is my perception. Still waiting on reasonable responses but the other apparent beauty is those individuals have zero accountability to me and can basically do this and say "deal with it" as Sab demonstrated with Paul.

This is what I do not like. They have the green text for when they are acting as a moderator, and normal text for player-interaction. Once we start losing those boundaries, it is no wonder things like recently start happening.
Also: i'm not an ancient, but wasn't the green text around on the haven forums before salem was even in development?

nope. only names, not texts.
one of the negative legacies paradox left here, along with the blue text for sarcasm.

Ah, I stand corrected then. I rather liked the green text for clarity. Also, I don't think anyone ever used the blue text here except for sarcastic sarcasm or whatever that would be.

You'd be amazed at how many threads you've posted on have involved arguments between GH and Tribal members.

I forget what we decided but it was either Mushibag or Mereni who first started using blue for sarcasm. It had nothing to do with Paradox. I'm waiting for it to hit other forums or become an international standard so that I can say I was there when it all got started.

Help and Bugs are where reporting is needed the most.

I don't know about relaxed but it can be entertaining. The mods are being a little thin skinned but to be fair you can only give out so many warnings and the Chief has gotten his share.

Let me break it down more for you Claeyt. My arguments here have nothing to do with Gallow Hills. I can do sign language next if you'd like. Your making irrelevant observations and not contributing anything to the argument. Also, for someone who had a couple if the guys who are majorly affected by this go to bat for you when you experienced a similar abuse of power you are being fairly short sighted.

right, people on these forums are not smart enough to actually read what is said in each context and every line needs to be clarified.
it sure sounds like fun for mods here to babysit.
