The bans on the Chief and Binks are appropriate, but Sabinati behavior is not, especially his reluctance to clarify when he is acting as a mod or just a member of the forums. Sabinati should not be a mod.

Doesn't premeditated trolling carry a higher sentence than bink's usual 0 thought trolling posts? I feel chief's ban should be extended for this reason.

Well, premeditated trolling is half the forum.

Honestly, There's no excuse for trolling the bug reports, period. I was looking for information on a pretty serious bug, and Chief's comments were a troll attempt for no reason. I heard later that after he heard that Darwoth had actually performed the murder action bug kill on one of Binks's alts that Chief tested and actually replicated it then reported it to jorb, replicated it for jorb and somehow they got it Loftar. This was all for the good of the game. That being said, he shouldn't have then trolled me on my bug report so that both Kand and I reported him. What he should have written if he wanted to be a leader of this game and a master-mason for the development of this game is:

My respect for him would have gone up 10 fold if he'd written that instead of his usual lame troll attempts on me. Maybe he doesn't want my respect but I would have thought of him more like a mason and top player working for the good of the game he loves.

As for the mods, they've been a lot better this fall but the whole GH history gets in the way sooo much. Old fights have to have an end don't they guys. I think 3 weeks is too much for calling someone a '*****'. Although it's up to Sabinati and not me, as one of the one's who reported Chief I'd say a week for Chief and 1 day for Binks would have been fair. I understand the history and understand that you're trying to get them and the forum under control (especially since we've grown a little bit this month with new players).

I'd at least ask Sabinati, with all due respect to have the other mods vote on his ban lengths and allow Binks and Chief to promise to never do what they did again to lessen their bans. Have them write it up in a PM and if they do it again, show it to them and throw the ban hammer harder. Mod mercy is a virtue also and it keeps the peace better.

Personally, If I was a mod, I'd probably never post on the HoB or CoaH forums again. Unless it was official.

I didn't read that as a troll attempt. That was him telling you to stop being an idiot as he felt inclined to do. The video he suggested would never happen with his implication that you could not refrain from making uninformed comments. But that's besides the point, my issue was Sabs reaction and naturally most here are to caught up being anti chief and Binks to have anything resembling a shred of objectivity. Maybe bans were in order. But adding a week for each post ex post facto without any formal warning, or even attempt at dispensing of a punishment that is remotely appropriate for the "crime" is abuse of power at its fullest. Debate as to whether or not it was trolling non withstanding. We have moderators that used a ban as part of a larger vendetta against players they have personal issues with in excess of what a ban would be for anyone else. Than one of those moderators proceeded to make comments suggesting the entire salem community should be banned. If that person hates this community so much they should not be a mod. Don't make the argument that without them we wouldn't have moderation. There are plenty of other mods who have been objective in this exact situation. Once again, I'd love for them to comment on this. That means not Sab. Not Jordan Coles. Not Potjeh. Not playing the forum game that much those are the three who clearly have a bias towards this whole charade. And while the bans may be argued as warranted, my argument is that the times are excessive and reflect personal grudges, and the behavior of Sab in particular with that specific comment that was made is completely against the entire purpose to a forum, lack of professionalism non withstanding.

The only thing that was keeping the forums from being the same as the haven forums was Paradox and they've since jumped ship. These are the haven forums in a lot of ways, the shift in moderation is still getting used to but if you want to speed up the acceptance I suggest you read the haven forums.

I like how someone can constantly harass the mods both in-game and on the forums and people are incredulous when that person gets a slap in the face. If you don't give any respect I don't know how can you expect to receive it...

I haven't had a problem with the mods, even when I've been moderated, because I don't behave like a child every time they do something I don't like.

Part of becoming a referee is learning how to ignore the japes. You need to grow a thick skin and learn to admit when your wrong and improve for the better. Then again, we'd all be better (humanity as a whole here) if we could all put those to practice.

Reposting from viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7651&start=160#p99190 for better visibility. Seems that a clear reminder that personal messages still follow forum rules needs to be given.

I got 2 PM's from certain unnamed jackasses showing money shots to the hair from this post. Kinda sick but somebody out there laughed.

If the mod team were to see a report on something like this, we would have to act on it. Just because a PM is sent doesn't mean the rules don't exist. Consider this a general public warning on the matter.

Translation: if you and your buddy want to send porn back and forth to each other, fine, as long as nobody complains. however, the rules do explicitly state to "keep it friendly and readable." Posting porn is explicitly mentioned, too. Sending unwanted photos to somebody is not friendly and would get a very stern action from me, at least. (I wouldn't hesitate at making it a permaban to start and then working back from there after discussing it with other mods and jorb.)

They were both friends of mine (one in RL). One was a hand drawn cartoon and the other came via a non-forum message. They weren't harassment or anything bad by any means. Just a friendly laugh at my comments. Duly reminded tho, thanks Magic.

My delicate sensibilities still can't get that picture Dallane posted out of my mind of some guy who looked like Colesie playing the guitar naked while bouncing around the room.

Ok. I saw Ikpeip say the same thing in a reply in that thread, but don't see it in the forum post. I don't get on IRC or other chat much, so there's always stuff I miss from outside these forums.

It was trolling on the bugs report. You can't tell people they're an idiot or any of that ***** on that section of the forum. It's not allowed and never has been. The whole point is to report the bug and to share info with each other. You don't have to tell how it's done but you have to help the community get info about it so the dev's will get it fixed. He didn't help. It takes a lot for Kand to report you on these forums. I've never seen him actually write "reported" and he's one of the nicest players I know. Chief should have just posted that description of how he had actually found it and given it to Loftar already. I would have applauded him for doing it right there on the thread. Instead he did what he did. Again, not up to me to judge the ban hammer, but it came down hard and long.

I read the Haven forums almost daily. (I'm Claeyt over there also) I've poned that old dude, what's his name, at least once over there when he posted the facebook page or whatever of that random guy with the same name as Loftar trying to prove he owned some giant telecommunications company.

They just fly fast and quick and vicious over there. Here it's all personal battles that last for generations it seems.

Exactly. The mods get to do what they want. It's up to the dev's if they want to kick them to the curb. I will say that Sabinati's been with the dev's for a long, long time and he's hosting the wiki. They're probably not going to strip the green text from him anytime soon. He's got like 20,000 posts over on the HnH forum where he's also a mod.
