Wow. This sounds like exactly the standard I'm sure the dev's were looking for in their moderators. Forgive for me for not using blue text here.

Sarcasm aside that's the most idiotic thing I've heard. Half of this game is the forums (I'd argue more even) and the way everything today seems to have been handled biased moderation will kill the game faster than the Tribe, Candy Gang, and Darwoth combined. And I don't mean that in the general sense as there are some good moderators. However, I absolutely support the argument that, while there are faults on both sides, the punishment handed down reflects excessiveness and bias. I'd love to see what an impartial party had to say.

Addendum: in anticipation of counter accusations of bias because of my affiliation to the tribe, I'd like to point out I made the same argument on behalf of Claeyt for similar matters. And Claeyt is not a forum friend of mine. Quite the opposite. I would make the same argument for any of the other folks that I blatantly can't stand to see even as a ignored post warning if the circumstances were there's as well.

I believe a positive forum environment is essential to growing a niche game such as salem to its potential. Recent events here on the salem forums have troubled me to the point that I feel it is necessary to post how I feel.
First let me describe what I believe moderators should or should not be.
Should:
Be examples to the rest of the community
Be held to higher standards than the average player
Be consistent and fair in their decisions and actions
Should not:
Be exempt from the rules the common player adheres to
Instigate, or participate in, *****
Abuse status for intimidation, or personal gain
Show favouritism

Personal feuds between moderators and other players are causing an unpleasant environment for everyone. Moderators are not always clear when they are moderating, and when they are taking part in a discussions. This causes conflict that should never happen in the first place.
Most recently a thread ( /viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7769 ) was locked with the moderator colesie stating "There's a treaty thread in place already for you to collect your pretend money". From my point of view the thread in question that was locked and the "treaty" thread colesie points to, cover two very different things over different servers. His response when a complaint was posted in the moderation megathread was equally inappropriate ( http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic ... 350#p99080 ) Attacking the poster and dismissing the claim. Further transgressions occur( http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic ... 504#p98504 ) where he combines moderation, and personal attacks on other players.
"Silent" banning [or censorship, however you prefer it] taking place in this thread ( /viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7743 ) is a clear example of moderators misusing their authority.
In ( /viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7735&p=97050#p97050 ) a request for an English translation in the OP was ignored by moderator AAlex, and then he himself violated the very same rule in his following post. While not as severe as previous examples, this is still disappointing behaviour from someone who should be a pillar of the community.
With beliefs such as "Everyone should be permabanned" expressed by sabinati( http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic ... 380#p99113 ) it seems that a large majority of the current moderator team does not have the best interest of the community in mind.

I will be the first to say that everyone makes mistakes, we are human after all, and emotions can get in the way sometimes.
I believe that removal from the moderation team should be considered for the most serious offenders, and clear guidelines and expectations for the rest be laid forward, for the good of this community and our game.

P.S. I am just leaving a copy of this here for the rest of our community to see, it has already been forwarded to the appropriate place.

So why don't you set a good example and permaban yourself? ...Not enough balls to do so? Just as i thought.
In feudalism, it's your count that votes...

I'd say the large majority of the current players don't have the best interest of the community in mind as well.

This bit made me laugh out loud.

It just proves people are with different mind sets.
The forum becomes a bore, same **** different day.

What drives people away is the grind to reach a level to take the oppressors on and beat them in their own game. One would need ALOT of free time.

Anyway, oppinions differ.

Yet, a fair and unbiased moderator group is an integral part of a functioning forum. Moderators locking threads with actual content willy-nilly (i'm thinking of the server debt), moderators banning people for a week because they fight this lock (admittedly, a bit bad-mouthed). I feel that a lot of bans and their lengths are due to personal feuds with players. I can't shed the feeling that, had other players but Binks and the Chief made those posts, the moderator response would have been wholly different.

I myself actually got a warning once for posting in classic greek (which is acceptable according to the magna carta, possibly could be seen as trolling) yet moderators themselves ignore the language rules on occasion (as linked above).

On the other hand, I feel a thumbs up must be given to those moderators that do their job well, which is in my eyes mainly MagicManICT. He & I post in the Help forums a lot and I've yet to catch him on an unhelpful/unfair day.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

This moderation!!!!

Jorb & Loftar, please take a look at the current moderation and remove all those butthurt kiddos who don't even play the game anymore, and are moderating topics they don't know jack about !!!!
If the majority of the playerbase doesn't like the current moderation, doesn't this say something ???

I said it months ago, the playerbase will only shrink with the half-assed 'i-don'*****' moderation like this.

Using their own standards, most of the mods should be banned aswell !!!
