I've been getting 'harassed' in Boston by folks wanting me to join their kin... and it's more than one person... but their name is always '???' and I never get any more information than that... or even the name of the Kin(s). Is there a toggle for anonymity?

I'm blown it off for the most parts... but most are threatening perma-death if I don't join a kin. What's annoying is there are lots of skeletons at the fringes (just outside) of Boston. Assuming that Boston is a 'safe' area... and everything else goes?

I've looked at that 'Groups' section of the Forums... and I'm not seeing how it's divvied up by 'Server' or Major township.

Second question- ties in with above... I'm wondering where I am on 'the map'; but walking out of Boston seems to be suicide. Is there a reliable map? I took the Guide at the beginning who ported me somewhere and then walked/wandered for a long time before putting down roots... twice. Just curious. And are all 3 servers essentially the same map... just called different names?

1. Unless you are kinned to a person they will always show as ???. You can memorize people and give them your own names. There isn't much harm to kinning people, they can tell when you're online. Boston is a safe area, once you leave the town though you can be killed.

Check HoB for the politics. Plymouth/Roanoke = Controlled by factions who are known for killing noobs. Jamestown = no group controlling although Darwoth has created a village.

3. No map, you can create your own though. All servers are different.

You may be just memorizing them instead of kinning them. That would explain the ???.

You're probably playing Plymouth then if people are threatening to kill you for not kinning. I don't know of anybody threatening to kill people for not kinning on Roanoke. Kinning basically is just a way for you to meet the person and learn their name. If you don't want to meet people and want to hide your identity then don't kin them. Personally I have a merchant alt who everybody knows and I kin everybody (100's of kin and thousands memorized). I do it to meet new people to trade with, to help new players and to learn info on other players. I have several other characters that I'll accept kins with if somebody kin's them but I'll generally unkin them at some point. I also have 2 or 3 characters that I never accept kins with.

Being kin allows people to know the name of your character, It allows them to see if your online, and finally it allows people to chat with you by right clicking on your name. It does affect your safety somewhat so be careful. You can always unkin them and just have eachother's names memorized.

The Tribe forces people to kin them on Plymouth so that if they find your Pclaim they'll know it's yours. You can memorize or check your memory for Pclaim owners by control right clicking on them. This isn't affected by kin or unkin but by them simply memorizing you.

Second Question:

All 3 servers are completely different generated maps. There's no longer any publicly available map since the Candy Queen stopped hosting one for Roanoke. It's not hard to make your own map from your saved tiles. There's several forum threads on it. Some groups have their own maps but they're private. The group of guys I play with have a map that has almost 85% of Roanoke covered. Several groups have 100% of Plymouth done. Apparently the Tribe's actually gets updated completely every single month and is password protected. Our's has been updated on maybe a 3 month basis.

Old question...that didn't get answered...

What is the deal with Torch Posts? Once they go out... they're scrap? I can't relight it... but I can add fuel. Tried tender drill, lit torch, flint and steel... none of them seem to work. Does it require a minimum amount of tender- added 6 pieces so far? About the only thing I haven't tried... wiki only states how much it will hold.

Torch Posts acts in the same way as Blazing Braziers:

Wiki wrote:You do not need to "light" a blazing brazier, it will automatically ignite when it detects a crime near it, as long as it has coal. Crimes of vandalism immediately awaken braziers (and Torch Posts).

Thanks for all the answers... I have a new one. Do Coal Clumps have a proximity factor like timber piles? It's been over 3 days...and it still hasn't 'converted'. Bug, glitch, or just bad luck?

Don't worry about it, Its unlikely your defenses would have stopped the tribe anyway.

Timers don't run when the server is down. Game times are based an internal clock, not a real-time clock.
