He asked about joining a town, and I told him that it could be fun and to check out the PnP section. 3 days later he comes back to me talking to me about the general discourse on the forums, the game bashing in the announcement threads by mods, and older players, the HnH versus Salem stuff in all the threads and you specifically pointing out the population decline in the HoB. I didn't ask which thread, he mentioned you and others by name.

I tried to explain to him that some of you don't even play the game any more, that you guys were maybe Seatribe fans, that had played HnH and Salem earlier and were hoping for a Renaissance. He seemed discouraged about joining a town, and the future of the game and where it was going. He knew that Paradox had dropped it before he read the forums. I'd given him Imriel's map which I have bookmarked in my "Noob Salem help folder" for just such occasions when noobs ask me for stuff, so he trusted me for other questions and some hay trades. In general, the repeated non-constructive posts about the game's decline on the forum discouraged him, and like I said he quit.

Again, I don't blame you solely for the game's pop drop. I'm only saying that you are a small part of it, and that your game bashing discouraged this player from continuing with the game. I don't think it's that much of me to ask you, an 'Elder of the Tribe' of Salem to lay of the continuous, non-specific, non-constructive game bashing and population bashing. Especially while some of us are working hard to make the game more fun with events, give aways, and trying to make it easier for new players to play.

No, you're not stopping my fun, but you are discouraging new players from continuing with the game. He wasn't hardcore and was a casual player but he was interested in playing the game. Again, it wasn't just your posts, but all of them.

You might have noticed that some people noticeably Colesie, have slowed with the bashing campaign against Salem (+1 for more effective modding). Maybe he's too busy ruling HnH, I don't know, but with Paradox dropping the game and the future somewhat in doubt we don't need it anymore. It doesn't help the game grow.

Those of us who actually really like the game have tried to step up and be more sparing in our forum flame wars. We've also been trying to help every new player get started in game. We've actually gone off site and hit up game sites elsewhere for positive reviews and to answer questions about the game.

You'll notice that not a single member of the tribe has posted in this thread. They are consciously making an effort to be constructive and on their best behavior in their posts for the good of the game, and they are avoiding and ignoring the tribe haters, and boycotting the forums in general. Same for the CG and most of the top players. Why? Because they like playing the game and are good at it, and don't want to see it die. They want new players to see the forums as constructive towards the game and for them to have more fun. Feel free to rehash the flame wars when they come back.

If you don't want to be part of what some of us are doing fine, but don't think that you weren't part of the problem then, even if Jorb says so.

Not true, I talk to them in game, while you never see them. They are all still playing except YGM (props to the pras every time I see a key in a stump , miss you big guy) and they all say they are avoiding and ignoring the forums intentionally. Even the Chief is on his best behavior.

The game is not dead. We still max out around 70-80 and I meet new people every single day I play.
