If people aren't excited enough to play the game then I don't think you could raise much money in crowd funding.

Indeed. People spend money on Kickstarter to get early access to the game.
Here we are in open beta and have less people than we had in the closed beta. That just means that players aren't interested enough even to play free.

Before promoting it we need some stable version... and a clear plan that developers always present when they go to Kickstarter.
Without clear intentions and with random patches Salem won't get efficiently to the bright future.

I do totally agree - we need some gameplay base that would lure and hold number of player not forcing them to leave after 1-5 days of play. That would provide some income so JLo could live and develope game plus some bigger stable playerbase wishing for more (and willing to pay for more).

To get people to stick around you need content yes, but salem actually has a fair bit of early game content that is easily accessible. It is midgame onwards that lacks any really rewarding new content, though this is being addressed by the devs.

The problem is new players are not reaching the midgame. They're leaving before their first week is up

In the end, you're looking at a failing game. The numbers speak for themselves and Salem is down to a few diehards and the odd curious nublet who quits after a few days. Where it has failed has come up numerous times in the suggestions section of the forum, or in the reviews and remarks of quitting players. Most of these players were trolled for their ideas/remarks and no longer bother.

A good game is one where, with skill, you can win, even if it is a slim chance. A bad game is one where you will lose every time.

And on that note, I'm out. I'm the last of my group to leave (originally about 8 of us) and will be the first to return once many of the issues with Salem are resolved.

For the record :

Name : Etherdrifter
Murdered : 0 times
Assaulted : 1 time
Raided : 3 times
Total silver paid to treaty : 0
Time played : Since closed beta

You only mentioned problems and no real ideas or solutions.

So, the guy positions himself as a know-it-all, but doesn't present anything wortwhile reading.

No game is perfect and it's very easy to come up with reasons about what's wrong with it. I miss a little effort in his post rather than just the usual rage post about quitting.
