Which brings us back to the point that spying is OP. It should be about gathering valuable info, not sabotaging the entire town out of existence when other town members are asleep.

If he doesn't have vandalism permissions on vclaim then he would surely trigger them?

Good evening,

Vclaim permissions aren't similar to pclaim permissions. Any member of a town has trespassing, larceny, and waste permissions on the village land by default, and this can not be removed.

It can be ;)

Procne wrote:... now I'm speechless ...

edit: then the only option I see is to not invite any players that haven't been verified / screened and have them live outside of village

And that is why I was thinking about town design that would be spy-sabotage-proof, maybe soon I will describe it on forums... PM if you want to join this project on roa :)

What I've done so far, is have two villages. One for new members, which is completely expendable, and one for the core group.

Of all new members invited to the new member town, I've gotten 2 reliable village members for the core group in the past 3 months. The rest either quit, stole stuff and dekinned us after a week or 2, and we even had a spy who worked hard for us, for 4 weeks (!). I was just about to invite him to the core group, when he killed my noob town placeholder alt, destroyed all sheds, and made off with a chest of iron. Little gain for 4 weeks of working hard trying to infiltrate, but still.

Being able to restrict villagers from vandalism would solve so much.

My problem atm is that most of my village members quit because of the above and below update, and I really need people in our core town. But as it is, the risk is too big.

Grandmother showed what we all need to do to advance. (Pras!)

I think we can all agree the game needs fixed though...

I don't want to gather grass, or plant 100's of cereal fields to spam hay.

I don't want to load up my lime alt and dig lime all day to raise a few fields either.

Sure the reward is great, but the effort isn't equal to that reward.

I have all the time in the world to play this game, and can't be bothered to do the above, it's too tedious.

So if a no-lifer like me is bored by it, there is no way a casual will bother.

I'd rather advance slowly over months than grind myself into boredom and quit.

Permadeath will keep a lot of players away, this game will always be niche, but the grind in Salem makes even those who would enjoy all of it's features not want to play it...that's a serious problem.

Thank you for this informative post, I've been going thru the forums for all information available as well as some of the more interesting threads since I'm a complete newb at this game. From what I've gathered, I don't see myself playing this any time soon. I guess I will check on this again a few months down the road once potential game breaking bugs are gone, grinds less staggering and the servers not quite as dead. Hopefully once this game get closer to gold, it will be something great, I'll just have to satisfy myself with the likes of dwarf fortress and towns in the meantime. Good fortune and thanks for testing out the game (been in too many alphas and betas to stick around for this one, especially with permadeath around ;))

From this one post I cannot gather how far into the game you are, but what I would suggest is ignoring the forums (for the most part) and simply play the game. If you need information hit up the wiki, if the wiki isnt helping then come here for assistance or what not.

Dont let the ***** and whining about all the broken things let you stop from experiencing the game first hand. It is very likely that everyone who complains and makes suggestions (myself included) is still playing the game to some extent. Maybe not as much before or maybe not at all. But either way, dont let these forums be the deciding factor. Go log some solid hours and see if it turns into days/weeks of you playing without even noticing. Dont worry about grinding purity, establish a base, grow your character, hunt some animals and get a mine up and running. Do whatever you want and see where you end up, maybe you will enjoy and it get addicted.

The grind will increase as more features are added.

I already played a few hours, I can see myself enjoying it. But right now, it's just Darworth and everyone else in Jamestown. I wouldn't touch the server with the tripe, wouldn't mind if they'd at least RP in the game instead of just the forum post. Roan(forgot name of server) seems some what okay, but I can see myself getting attacked eventually just for coming to the game late. I'll stick around until I finish reading the funnier threads though.

@dag
well, if it get even more grindy, definitely won't be able to play then. Oh well, will see what happens down the road.

P.S. I noticed grandmother is leaving the game too, gah ><

The total grind will increase so we have to specialize and play in a group to compete.

Possible, but it will be less noticeable while you will be busy with many different things during one day.
