Good evening,

Jalpha wrote:So nice of you to drop by and reassure us all of how difficult raiding is from a raiders perspective Paul. I'm so much more at ease. I see you brought your little puppy along too, always good to see it gushing all over the forums about how wonderful you guys are, it's come to make me do a second take on my opinions of the tribe.

On a more serious note. I don't see how you can possibly claim that raiding is not overpowered without looking ridiculous. Go on, write an essay, because the vast majority doesn't believe you. Straight up defences are so underpowered people have been trying to use "tricks" the whole time to make their bases more defensible. The raider has too many advantages compared to those of the defender.

Of course that wasn't your point. Perhaps the point you were making is that whilst the wall damage curve looks reasonable, it is not?

Now I'm not one to say "I told you so" but... Have fun ruling your dying server that nobody wants to play on.

Like a stuck record, you keep repeating the same nonsense. The scale of Plymouth's population drop is right in line with the population drop seen on Roanoke and Jamestown. Your hysterics are transparent, and the salt from the bitter tears of your continued failures are a delicious seasoning on the feast of the Tribe's success.

Whether or not the majority believes me, defenses are currently overpowered. That's why the Tribe is able to leave scents with impunity - it's pretty much impossible to successfully siege a vault, and we haven't put much effort into fortifying them. Here's a picture of one of my vaults, currently:

The advantages in a raid, if there is a town claim present, are all on the side of the defender. Even a modestly defended base acts as a 4x force multiplier. The truth is, your inability to defend a base is a result of your own laziness and incompetence. The stench of failure is evident in your posting, as you cast about desperately for someone else to blame your shortcomings on. You have no concept of the logistics, coordination, supplies, and time commitment requires to raid an active, defended settlement. If raiding is overpowered, then prove it. Come raid me. There's plenty of you whining around these forums - why don't you get your act together and Do a Thing?

Because you can't. And that's why the constant calls for changes to the system, or even server restarts, won't accomplish anything in the long run. You lost not because the system is broken, but because you are simply not an effective player.

Faithfully,

-Paul the Paymaster

I guess I hit a nerve.

I'm well aware that were I to make an attempt to raid such a vault, as soon as the waste claim became active, you would have changed your homestead to another location. And on. And on. And on... Until all the criminal evidence you left scattered about expired.

As for continued failures... Since I made it onto your most wanted list you have been incapable of discovering any location of mine, let alone murdering any characters I own. Continued failure my friend, lies solely on your doorstep.

But lets not get too far along a derail here...

Not only will I not change the homestead, I'll sell you summonable scents if you need them.

Which is 90 days for murder. Of course, you lose the ability to track after 9, so there is that problem of finding where they're at.

You should leave the HoB silliness to HoB. The reason no one will assault your "vault" has nothing to do with the overpowered nature of defense. Quite the opposite. Because if they were to attack your vault, they would leave scents which the Tribe will follow back to wherever they try to hide and end them. Because defense is "weak". And from there come several other obvious corollaries and ramifications. If you're going to debate in an announcement thread, at least debate in good faith.

I'd prefer the location of somewhere important, instead of your garbage wall basher alts "hideout".

The point here is that the Tribe has left many many scents and is not afraid, because they know that properly laid and defended bases are, in fact, unassailable. The announcements threads lately all seem to turn to complaints that raiding is OP for the attackers, but the ones arguing that are the ones who haven't actually tried to raid anyone in a long time. If anyone was determined enough that they actually built a Good, Defended, Live base, and practiced their combat as much as the tribe does, they'd be able to challenge the tribe's power.

The location of the main tribal base has been publicly known for some time and was posted on the forum. That important enough for you?

Good evening,

Etherdrifter wrote:I'm sorry, bad mathematics vexes me.

This is not a good thing to say as the opening for a post where you claim...

Etherdrifter wrote:Actually the increase is almost arithmetic, so each point of phlegm is equally useful (within values obtainable by players).

The square root function is not arithmetic, nor is it almost arithmetic. It has diminishing returns, which can be seen clearly in the previous graph. Claiming otherwise is "bad mathematics."

Etherdrifter wrote:It is worth noting that such sequences do not converge (at least without very large numbers).

Such sequences do not converge, because such sequences are square root functions. Which do not converge.

Etherdrifter wrote:x , d/dx, damage

100, 0.158, 31.623
200, 0.112, 44.721
300, 0.091, 54.772
400, 0.079, 63.246
4000, 0.025, 200
So a titan with 400 stats is doing double damage to walls than a player with 100 stats. Every extra 100 is adding roughly 1/3. The second order derivative is a very small number indeed above 100. So the real picture is geometric for a number below 100, and almost arithmetic above.

A less... selective... set of datapoints than what you use in the chart disproves your claim about every extra 100 adding roughly 1/3. If you take into account increasing costs to gluttony each point, the diminishing returns become more stark:

The above chart does not take into account the loss in gluttony progress, which becomes more and more costly as you gluttony for higher values.

Faithfully,
