(edited for accuracy. Sorry for messing up the quotes before.)

I'm a new player (around 2 months).. and I pay the Treaty. The way I look at it, If not for the fact that the strongest players on the server are willing to protect your 'stead for a (seriously) small amount of silver, new players would be subject to raids by roving gangs of 100-bile hooligans who would operate with impunity. Were that the case, i probably would have quit after the first raid..

Especially now, with the purity changes, it would be pretty difficult for noobies to get up to the point where they could successfully defend themselves and their hard-earned improvements from players with just a couple more months played.

The way it stands now... We have a force of Heavy-duty veterans to protect us that NOBODY has the power or will to ***** with.. who are willing to dedicate their time and effort to make sure that we can enjoy playing the game in peace... and for this they ask a measly recompense in comparison to what they provide. Bear in mind that it can take hours and hours for them to track down a perpetrator... with no guarantee of any kind of profit in the venture...

I DON'T call that extortion... and I DO appreciate it..

Gee, or you can play in a server that isn't like that, take reasonable precautions, and never get bothered at all.

I know of people who are incredibly wealthy and well established on certain servers who never, ever get bothered by anyone. There is an element of forethought and strategy to this.
You can't expect to settle near other people you don't trust and be undisturbed.

The wealthy players you are talking about are still taking a risk. They could be raided at any time. For players who prefer absolute safety, I think playing on plymouth and paying the treaty is the best option. Plymouth could easily be the safest server to play on if everyone paid the treaty.

Where and what is the problem here?

I can not imagine how hard it needs not to respect themselves and do not have any pride to go to someone in slavery.

This is possible only after liquidation the Mafia, i.e. MM Tribe.

You do not know what slavery is, otherwise you wouldn't state something so stupid. The Mafia analogy is appropriate though.

Yes, the Mafia or the Government. If I had a choice, I'd rather dodge taxes than paying those good for nothing officials but they'll send their heavies to lock me up anyway.

Pay any tribute without receiving anything in return, and do not have any rights including the right to life, it means to be a slave.
Only a fool would disagree with that, imho.

As a slave, you are literally owned by someone and can be sold to any other person. Usually: you are not allowed to choose where you live, you are not allowed to speak unless your owner has explicitely asked you to speak, you are forced to work for your owner from morning to dawn, you are only allowed to eat the food the owner provides you, you are not allowed to read or educate yourself unless the owner grants permission. If you are a female, you usually also have to be ready to provide sexual services for anyone your owner chooses.¨

Does that sound like the life of a treaty payer :P ?

Morning til dawn? sounds good to me a few minutes in most cases.. would cut down on treaty payments though..
I didnt know it was limited to females for those types of services... (especially for the Chief)
