I was gonna rant at all the whining, but instead I'll say : Put together some well thought out sentences that don't involve pointing out your opinion that the devs are morons because they can't see what you can see about their game.
Also @ minecraft, most of my friends that play it like to either play specifically PvP servers, servers with heavy amounts of mods that basically turn minecraft into something similar to salem, with land property and skills and forts that people will grief. Putting that aside, basic minecraft in multiplayer is all about breaking the other person's stuff, and it's a lot easier than in Salem, unless you'd like Jorb to implement hard to destroy smelters that you can spam around your perimeter?

Point being, I doubt that many people just sit in single player creative mode and just craft purdy things. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure everyone eventually does that as some stress relief, and I do think it's fun, but you can't really blame a game for not having a creative mode. The fact that you have to hide from players ingame isn't an indicator of a bad MMO, 8/10 times on a WoW PvP server a member of an opposing faction will thoroughly kill you if he thinks he can. And while that particular example has no permanent loss for dying, other games have more severe losses, and are still played by a lot of people. EVE Online for example has a death system where you can lose anything ranging from your ship (which can take as much effort to acquire as it takes to build a fairly raider-proof base in Salem), a great deal of your character's skills, which again are very time consuming to acquire, and there is just generally a chance to be abused by baddies in any corner of the game, save for perhaps highsec, but even that sees its fair share of suicide bombers. The thing people need to realize is that salem is salem, it's not some other game that's had its PvP turned up to 11. It's just salem, and whining that you don't feel safe is like players of Call of Duty whining that all the enemy players try to kill them.
