In fact you have to do both.

First, worms that spawns in Bin allways spawn with neutral alchemy, even in pure Bins. So one one day another, you will have to feed worms, and you better start now, because as you said, it takes time.

Improve bin purity also takes time. Plant the tree, wait 9 days to take sapplings, plant the new generation (with 50% fail), rinse and repeat.
And as vitaalt said, if you don t use good humus for that, your tree purity will not go so well.

Worms are fed in the beginning with foraged items, in my case I can find 40 lead autumn grass. But nothing above that.
So in a second time you will need to feed them with pumpkin flesh with higher purity. For that you need good humus...

So my advice is to work both on bin and worm purity.
Worms are even more important i think, because while you can probably buy boards with good purity to build your bin (and let the hard forestry work to those guys), I don't see a lot of Worm sellers. And even if those exist, the worms will be F'''' expensive because it's a long breeding process.
A guy that already have good tree purity and wish to sell, can produce boards in a short time and in a big amount. For worms, even if he has 100% purity worms, in order to sell some, he still have to breed new ones from the beginning.

Well it's just pain in the ass anyway.

1st generation: cutting 0% / 3x humus 70% / pot 0% / water 7% -> 1,14 1%
2nd generation: cutting 1% / 3x humus 90% / pot 0% / water 7% -> 1,34 3%

I could gather some data for that but... woooooooooorms!

Why do you have pot at 0% if you have water at 7%.
Make new pot with your water, and if possible look for granite/lime with the same element.

Wow. I'm stuck with less than 5% on anything. The highest I have found is 4% Salt grass on my own property!

We need some sort of swop shop with granite and lime on offer ie, salt/merc granite 5% swopped for merc/lead granite 5%... insert your own % pure and elements...

You should start one for your server, I personally already traded a bit of stuff that I didn't want to pursue for stuff that I did need.

OK so worm gets to 5% purity from best possible foraged foods. Makes 5% humus, which makes 5% plants...how exactly are we supposed to increase anything beyond the 5-10% cap when it's all dependent on each other with no element of randomization?

Only option I see is sinking gobs of silver into exploding alchemy sets to boost tree saplings a little to make better bins. :(

Step by step here is the process (with random numbers).

Forage plants to feed you worms (best i got is 39+ in lead). With quite some time your worms will get close to 39, but quite fast will go above 30. Feed them as much as you can and time to time put them in a bin (don't need to put more worms that needed to get 100% worm efficiency) to get some humus.

Look for water, lime, granite of the same element (here Lead). Make gardening pots.

Put a random tree in those pots with your best water and best humus.

Plant your tree in the ground, take sapplings (after 9 days i think) and replant them in your pots. Use this tree (let say it has 28 in lead element) to make a compost bin.

Now you have a 28 lead bin plus worms above 30.

Your second tree generation will be above thirty maybe and your humus is getting better.

Repeat all this, make a new compost bin when you obtain a tree with higher element that you already have.

Produce some pumpkin with your best humus. If this one is high enough, your pumpkin will have higher element that the plant you forage to feed your worm. And they will be able to go higher that 39 lead (in my exemple).

Feed worms, plant trees, make better compost bin, get better humus, get higher element pumpkin and keep going.

That's the way to reach 99% purity in one element. But the story doesn't say how long it takes. :P
