So from what I understand:

Humus alchemy is determined by:

1) the compost bin itself (materials used to create the bin)
2) humus influences the alchemy of worms

Or is number 2 the other way round?

How do you increase purity then? Build quality of your compost bin + purity of what you put in?

They work on individual items. Purity does not harmonize between items, you merely have the option to do two at a time.

You're right, short of writing 20 pages worth of patch notes in legal document style, it's pretty hard to answer every question in advance. But it's either displaying the information clearly in advance, or answering the questions as they pop up after the initial announcement. And after the last announcement there were two or three more or less vague follow-up answers by Loftar, and then there was darkness, so you can't blame me for hoping for some clarity either pre or post announcement.

On to the actual question I had though. What happens with items that have the highest element higher than 50? 11/9/10/70 turns into 30/0/0/70 and that's it? I guess that'd be in line with the general idea of diminishing returns on higher purities, but still not much help for boosting actual alchemical values past 50 in items that don't already have that element past 50.

I'm liking this update more and more.
Less woohoo I lucked out on a good node and more, getting your head round the numbers and working it.
In itself a vast improvement on Haven.

So do worms take the alchemical value of the humus or the other way around and does the purity of a worm influence the purity of humus or the other way round?

purity of worm is influenced by stuff you give him to eat (in a container)
purity of humus is influenced by the worm(s), you put in the compost bin (by open+leftclick) and the purity of the boards/nails the compost bin is built of

The worms! In them have I put too much faith. Too much. Instead of creating sweet, nutrient-rich soil, they slither as the harbingers of my own decay, hope and soul rotting away beneath an inability to settle into this, our new way of life. I feel them chewing, always grinding, through the dirt beneath my feet and feel that soon I will know the fiery kiss of Hellfire.

Oh so the worm once placed into compost bin "dies" after a while? Or what did you mean by being compostable still?

I doubt they die. The compost bin now acts as the compost bin ever has (where you can pick up a worm, plant matter, etc and right click it against the bin) and also as a container for worms like a crate or a chest where you can left click/shift click it into one of the available spaces. If I accidentally am managing my compost bins and right click a worm on one instead of left clicking and placing it into a slot, it'll apply +1.0 compost rather than place the physical worm, it will consume the worm as it always has.

I doubt this will change, it just seems to be another very easy way to ruin work. I guess the real message is:

:!: :!: Beware when handling your worm. If you do let someone else handle it for you, make sure they know what they're doing or you'll just end up regretting the decision. :!: :!:

In what way is purity related to alchemical value? E.g. can you have a worm with 70% lead and 0% purity? And is the purity of the worm determined by the humus that has already been created or by red bar in the compost bin?

So worms influence the purity of humus and humus on the other hand influences the alchemical values of worms.

ok, i try it different:

(container): worm (25/25/25/25) + plant (30/20/25/25) -> worm (30/20/25/25)

(compost bin 25/25/25/25 ): worm (30/20/25/25) + 1 unit of "red bar" -> worm (30/20/25/25) + compost (27/23/25/25)

above values are only for demonstration and can/will differ in the game
