Shealladh you have lot's of interesting ideas in your posts but it will be a hard to make them all. I already spend my free time for developing custom client so i don't want to deal with map as main programmer. But i always can help someone who will - i workd with google maps, custom markers and so on.

I think a map showing elevation (ie impassible mountains) would be even more useful than a biome map. Of course, that'd take some changes to the custom clients *hint hint*

Ender's client has a heightmap overlay. It is a button above the minimap, with 2 settings...Transparent and full overlay. It is awersome.

I know about that, but AFAIK it doesn't save that info in map sessions so it can't be put on the world map.

I see what you are saying now. It would be useful, but then I think there would have to be two different world maps.

I forget, but is there a multiquote option?
Anyways tried to do in one post rather than each at a time;

Qukatt wrote:The homestead provacy being a particular concern of mine Now is the ideal time to make a map before things get too ingrained into the landscape. We can share the virgin countryside before we start major builds. therefore keeping the public map.. urm.. clean i guess of these things. that isn't to say that others who may stumble upon towns won't get the map tiles there updated.

When you send new tiles along, after settling and then exploring around your place, I guess you could just delete the tiles that reflect where exactly the tiles changed to show your claims

With the Salem Map Tool you can crop an area. Maybe a nice addition would be to have a similar way to remove an area before export feature?

Anyway I'd like to help but as I said I'm now PC wizz kid - I do make excellent cookies though - not sure if thats a skill you can use though... :?

Thanks, I'm told I think too much
I think the hard part here is going to be getting a project team together and have options to help each other.

I just had a brainstorm session and posted what I was thinking of, and you are right, hard to make them all but not impossible over time.

I am just not familiar with JavaScript and am looking at the code to see roughly how it works. I have a headache before looking at the code, so after this flu passes it may look clearer.

Any help, pointers, or ideas are most welcome. I suppose we can get a project started if there is enough need for such a project and then everyone can help as they have the time.

Would this be possible to make a xml file for each sesssion or something similar?

My idea was to add an alpha channel to the png with this info, but not sure how to do this as it would have to be done via the client? Although I think having the Map Tool and Ender authors' collaborating together could achieve this goal.

In the BT client you can get a terrain level by holding the shift key while having the grid turned on, but I am unsure of the terrain height and depth limit to even begin to come up with a solution. Maybe we could ask Loftar?

One of the last times I wrote a program myself was 25+ yrs ago  and the aim was extrapolating terrain projections into image files and I can see how complicated this could be to achieve. But given that each tile is 100px sq, the alpha channel could easily hold a grayscale approximation terrain heights maybe. The hard part is getting it to show as an overlay on the google map without adding server CPU overheads.

One guy's solution was used in the way I'm thinking Polygonal Map Generation for Games for another game called Realm of the Mad God. Using this principle, the heightfield could be calculated in a similar process and then added to the alpha channel or as a seperate option/file.

Sorry if I'm overthinking this, but been along time since I done programming.

can you make sword in box light sword so sword come out when opened? then if sword is back after sword, use light saber on box, and saber will be boxed after sword is out. - Battlebug (Sw:tor forums pre-wipe)

I will send in a big bunch of tiles as soon as I have explored more. Want to contribute (thinking of walking to Boston for the sake of that). <3
I never managed to figure out something clever for my signature on Paradoxplaza, and I doubt I'll do it here either.
