i know the meat is a pain! especially now that you can't really use it for compost.

Stew so we can have a use of cauldron. Maybe we need water, meat and other plants. Cauldrons can be hung inside stove when cooking (graphically visible) and the ability to boil water. Also, stew can only be eaten on dish and has multiple servings.
Edit: Ability to salt meat and store it in barrels to save space.
