birds would bring the world a level up, if they were somewhat realistic, flying from tree to tree, randomly searching the ground for food... lots of ramifications too, different types of birds, each would sing differently, and people could plant fruit trees or craft those tiny homes and put fruit on it to attract the birds and make the place more joyful

Has anyone suggested that we should be able to make maple syrup?

I did, yes. Among a few others that are plant related.

I think this is a GREAT idea tho I would take it one further. I think the Maples should be able to be tapped once every so often to give that nice goey sweet sap to make syrup. You could refine it in the press to make sugar and other resulting products you might get from pressing the liquid out of the sweet sap.
