Game Development: As Above, so Below

Announcements of major changes to Salem.

this update just solidified the political landscape of Salem for weeks if not months. It'll now take us 50-100 humor folks much, much longer to catch 500 plus humor folks. If you had done this update with some sort of humor wipe/humor drain until we get out of Beta, that would have made more sense. Now it just makes it harder for us medium folk to compete. On the good side, all the humor monsters will also be growing high purity trees for a week or so.

One problem with that is that decay is a rather boring mechanic.

But we do have humor decay on high humor characters. Braziers damage max humor values.

A cap would be a ridiculous solution unless soak on all things is greatly reduced, and hp as well, or no one will be able to destroy the things they build. And if purity of wood is affecting humus bins now, what's next? Lovers lockets and nails affected by the anvil? Iron affected by the smelter? Food affected by the oven? We'll all need to be destroying some pretty tough stuff soon, I imagine.

I'm reeeeaally enjoying this update! From a scientific/natural-philosophy-based playing perspective, this is awesome!

Thanks, guys! This'll keep a new player like me very interested!

i guess that is their reward for advancing themselves instead of sitting around with a thumb up their ass for months waiting for someone else to do the work and give them seeds then aint it?
Nobody's ever given me seeds. I've bought some, found some, and my group has raised some. The problem is that the reward you called it is huge. It solidifies your status for months now, while the rest of us have a harder time. If we want thousands of people on this game we have to make it easier for them to reach your status, not harder. You can call it a reward for all your hard work, I call it getting into the game early and lucking out that the dev's only now put this update in.

Darworth, would you be completely opposed to a humor drain like I mentioned before, with a soft cap of 100, for game play equalization?

This needs a new server/server restart, one person with 500+ humours will be able to wipe ALL others for years to come.

Some people focussed on defenses over humours

dunno why, guess they never heard of the whole " the best defense is a strong offense" thing
