Chat How-To
How to write in Area chat?

• Press [Enter] to show edit line, then press [Enter] one more time to send message.
• Left-Click on "[A][NickNameHere]" (existed area chat message) in the chat window to show edit line, then press [Enter] to send message.

How to write in Party chat?

• Press [Ctrl+Enter] to show edit line, then press [Enter] one more time to send message.
• Left-Click on "[P][NickNameHere]" (existed party chat message) in the chat window to show edit line, then press [Enter] to send message.

How to write in Village chat?

• Press [Shift+Enter] to show edit line, then press [Enter] one more time to send message.
• Left-Click on "[V][NickNameHere]" (existed village chat message) in the chat window to show edit line, then press [Enter] to send message.

How to PM somebody?

• You can select "Chat" from Flower menu (you can get it through Buddy list or right-clicking on any character), wait until edit line will be showed, then press [Enter] one more time to send message.
• Left-Click on "[W][NickNameHere]" (existed PM message) in the chat window to show edit line, then press [Enter] to send message.
• Ctrl+Left-Click on "[NickNameHere]" (in any chat message) in the chat window to show edit line, then press [Enter] to send message. (Note - this will work only if you have this guy in your buddy list)
• Press [Alt+Enter] to show edit line with last PM opponent, then press [Enter] one more time to send message.

IRC support
You can open IRC tab by "IRC" button. All configurations are in Options (IRC tab). You should press "connect" and wait until you will enter channel.
Default channel for RU users is #salemrus, for others - #salem. If you want to specify other default channel for lang group - PM me.
You can send message into IRC by hitting [Enter] to show edit line and so on...

IRC is not finished yet, you can use only basic features. Don't join other channels from ingame pls (you can specify channel in the salem.xml)

Config options
font type, size, colors for all channel-types, also you can setup your own channels, change irc channels. multiple irc channels may not work now.

I've been playing Salem for about a week now on my laptop. I want to install it on my new computer but whenever I try to download this client, it freezes after a certain point. What can I do to fix this?

I've been having the same problem. I wonder if I need to reinstall java?

Edit: Disabled AVG and it worked, go figure.

I no longer have sound in BDSaleM since the update, and yes, I have it turned up in the client and yes my sound works.

Edit: interface sounds still work, like clicking tracking and swimming on? but no ingame sounds work.

Yes, same issue here. I think it is because the default client had changes done to the audio system it uses. I know this because I was in-game right before the server shut down to update the client, and received the following server-wide message(s) right before the shutdown:

"Server shutting down in 3 minutes for client update. Reason: fixing some audio issues"
then this 2nd message:
"Oh, you will need to re-download the new client"

(that's not verbatim but pretty close)

So the latest vanilla client (and Enders too) the audio works fine, but something's wrong in BDSalem client it seems. For some reason I didn't notice this at first, I guess because the audio is pretty sparse as it is - but yeah, only interface clicks are working, other sound events are not occurring as they should be.

I am also missing most of the audio ques after the most recent update as well as loading screens that never go away, i can move etc (using the minimap) but to get visuals again i have to relog, usually happens going in and out of buildings/mines multiple times...this also started with most recent updates and does not happen with enders or basic clients

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's happening to, that endless "loading..." screen but you can still move around via minimap at least. Unfortunately it can happen at inopportune times such as while being chased by a snake, so logging out is not an option - just have to run blind and hope for the best.
