Not really. You can do pretty well on your own if you just detach yourself from your character and have at it. You'll die a lot along the way, but if you're careful and pay attention to the mistakes, you'll figure it out quite well.
I don't know if that's feasible anymore unless you're going to search for leantos with boxes in them or tiny unwalled claims or people too foolish to actually build braziers. I suppose there are enough of those around that someone could raid alone if they were willing to do a lot of searching, but with the buffed walls and the super buffed braziers, most people are probably going to want support.
