Server down?

I'm having the normal "could not connect to server error", but I know my account works because i can log in at another computer, and it clearly says the servers are online. Can anyone help?

Then this is the wrong place for this question. If you've been able to connect successfully in the past, check to make sure nothing has changed. You might need to clear Salem out of Java's cache. You might have local/regional network issues. It's pretty hard to diagnose from just this.

I've just downloaded the client and tried to log on for the first time. It gets past authenticating and says connecting but then displays "could not connect to server". I checked the server status but I honestly have no idea what "stopped" means without any context or frame of reference as a brand new user. Is it down for maintenance right now? If so, I clearly have awful luck.
