Players tracking...

Postby darnokpl » Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:43 pm

New skill or few skills that would allow us to track other people, not only criminals.

Pilgrims tracking require f&w 50, h&g 40 and allow to see footprints on ground (not on map). Higher profs levels give you ability to see older footprints (in time all should slowly disappear).

Why we need such things? Simple I want to see who was near my camp when I was offline, even if he does not leave any scents.

I'm not feeling it. Makes it much easier for a griefer to find and hunt down others for lulz; gives an additional advantage to an older character - as if they don't have enough. And of course, everyone will want a counter for that, so you'll need a "hide tracks" movement mode which older characters will in all likelihood use at all times, at least when doing something you'd want to track them down for.

Yes, but "hide tracks" could slow down move speed then people wouldn't use it all the time.
As for older characters advantage hmm maybe char with higher stats would leave "deeper" footprints that would last longer, so it would be easier to track them not newbies?

Like forage and wander, it'll still be a preferred movement mode when travelling through familiar places or when doing something nefarious, which is the only time when a player who does not intend to attack anyone would want to track like that.
At most I can see characters leaving tracks when interacting with objects, indicating that someone has been in the area, but not who, when or where they went, although the latter can still be deduced.

It's pretty easy to track newbs already though, just look for trees with no leaves.

Sounds bad...only reason you want to track people who don't commit crimes is to raid them

Or maybe just to stalk them. Stalking is pretty fun in games, just avoiding detection and watching their every move.
