Fast travel/trade routes

Postby iambobthepirate » Tue Jan 29, 2013 7:07 am

This idea could be implemented in a number of ways.

The aim
To make community trading feasible, community specialization practical.

implementation
one possible idea is to use wagons or something like this. fast travel wouldn't actually be fast, it should take x number of hours to complete a trip. 3-6-12-24 hours? it could work somewhat like attuning a key where the wagon would have to be manualy brought from point a to point b. once a route is established the fully loaded wagon can travel on its own to its destination.

As it stands town claims really don't function like real towns, it would be great imo if incentives were created to necesitate town hubs/ trading centres other than just boston.

i'm sure this isn't a new idea, something along these lines has been brought up before but its been a while, so with new players mayby some new ideas.

tired of alt porting all my junk to boston and back to homestead

That's a terrible idea IMO. Some noob stumbles across an abandoned town and does that by mistake and can't get to boston and is stuck in the middle of nowhere with no clue how to GET to boston? Seems like we could lose quite a few players quickly. Might be better to add just one more travel: Home, Boston, City? That way we don't have any screw ups, you can still sell stuff like cricket teams in boston, you have your home transport and you can go to a central hub city of your choosing.

i was going to suggest market routes Age Of Empires style, cities could build markets and use city "kin" to set a trade route... caravans or ships controlled by bots would actually travel on the land and could be attacked, but they have an automatic defense, like a brazier and wouldn't be so easy to take, maybe feature upgrades too... congestion would be something to watch
