Enabling Shadows causing game to crash?

It sure seems like it. Everything was running fine until I had enabled shadows, and after I did, the game immediately crashed and my computer completely froze up forcing me to restart.

I read some other threads concerning the game/computer freezing and whatnot, and I followed what was prescribed (updated my drivers), but to no avail the game has been, to me at least, rendered unplayable.

It could be a bug or it could be something on my side, I don't know, but I figured I'd at least bring this to someone's attention.

EDIT: Also, each subsequent time I try to play the game, I'm able to log in and choose my character, but after that the game freezes and locks up my computer.

Depends entirely on how OpenGL is implemented on your graphics drivers. If implemented incorrectly, you're going to have issues. The options then will be to change operating system (may be a newer driver available) or replace the video card.

For the record, do you mind sharing what card you have? I've been trying to compile a list of cards and issues with them with any fixes that might be available..

Sure! It's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6370, and, unfortunately, it's integrated - just for the record.

Thanks. I'll add it to my list of cards. No idea why shadows don't work on it.

*note: only other ATI/AMD card with an issue with shadows I've had anyone tell me about was a Mobility 9xxx.

Then you can also add to your list ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530. Enabling shadows causes my laptop to completly freeze up

For anyone else that might see this, if you have a card that's causing this problem (or any other) please, let me know. So far the problem is only with the Mobility cards.

Is there any fix on how to reset the client after Shadows have been enabled without having to go in-game (which is impossible)?
I just turned them on to check and now I can't login to the character without the whole client freezing and the graphics card being reset or whatever.

Edit:
Possible solution (works for me)
Open the salem.cfg file in the Salem folder.
Change shadows=true to shadows=false
Save
Login and play.
